I went on a BIM kick before the cold. Took humus from woods next door, sprinkled it (and some Happy Frog Soil Conditioner) separately, into undercooked rice in cool dry spot. Completely covered in 4 days. I mixed in the coco soil I'm using ATM. Did I it again in a grass field for more diversity. Now that collection was like an exploding marshmallow...thnx Rrog. Mixed in soil and had a fermenting vinaigrette type smell. There were sticky rice lumps all in my soil. Guess this technique is best used as a serum. Great thread. Amazing what you can accomplish for free! I'll rep when able too.

we all know organics is used in ROLS, but wouldnt it be cool if there was a ROLS sub forum, with the thread stickied, and this stickied, and other informative threads?!
I just think it would be cool to have an area really focused on just true living organics instead of ~organics~, know what I mean?
I think there's enough info now to justify it, World of Hempy finally got it's subsection in drain to waste :-D
favorited this thread thanks a bunch !

Great thread going on. Going off foreverflyhi, Redcarpetmatches and Hyroots posts...Im trying to skip a few processes and see what happens

Having gathered my 'Native soil' (i get a bag full everytime i go to my guerilla grow spot) and getting it back to the bin to form the basis of my soil. (other amendments added later as i build up)

I figure this native soil should have my populations of bacteria and fungi and i just need to expand them

Make sure there is adequate moisture in my soil

Uncooked brown rice

Added brown rice and left unmixed to monitor results...

IMG_7044.jpg
Added Oats unmixed (being doing this for a while as part of my soil recipe anyways

Put cover on bin..(leave for 1 to 2 weeks) :)

Just an update on the 'fuzz and beasties' thing i got growing in my bin....

I decided to add some Diastatic Malt (1/2 teaspoon) to the mix....wondering if i should also add some raw organic coconut (shaved)? Good enzyme action for the roots to be broken down and food for the beasties and fuzz....

IMG_7099.jpg
You can see the little specks of Diastatic Malt and the beginnings of fuzz...

With the presence of a little bit of leaf matter and grass clippings, along with a damp environment..it is helping the fungi to grow quite fast...
The rice is brittle and easy to break in half now...

Onwardz... :)

Any thoughts on adding coconut flour?
Try misting the oats a little and under cooking rice...instead of applying dry. I got at least a 1/4 inch layer in a week. I like the rice wash the best...it's even a deodorizer! I've got the best results with baby oatmeal sprinkled on top of VC. Coco flour is something I'd like to know more about. Sounds like it'd add some awesome diversity. Are you around any bamboo...that's also some great BIM!

The coco nut water i buy locally has chunks of coco, i filter it and add it to my worm bins, in sure coco is a great additive!

I was messing around with my nice camera all day and couldn't get a justifiable close up. It's like I have to go on YouBloobe to learn the white balance, ISO, etc. Why the effe can't auto just give me something post worthy?! I spent 3$ on camera aps that could've bought a bale of peat lol.

While it would be faster to wet down the oats and under cook the rice....i dont really have to speed thingz up. I figure if the native soil holdz indigenous microbes and fungi that are present in the damp and/or optimal conditions given...they will inoculate/colonize the oats and rice at their own pace...also...i get lazy..this is (perhapz) a easy way to get my populations increased (...random theory :) )

I will add some organic coconut flour tomorrow....with a update on proceedings. :)

No not around any bamboo
