Yeah, the fact that the IOC agreed to put the Olympics in a place that, for all intents and purposes, did not exist seven years ago might be important depending what happens next. Clearly the IOC was taking in bags of cash.

But the history of the Sochi games has not yet been written - grousing journalists aside. If Putin can get out of this with only "face damaging water" it will be a big win for him.

If this thing blows up, the IOC may come under some heavy scrutiny. The Chinese pulled it off without a hitch, let's see what happens.

I'm thinking something bad is pretty likely. And that sucks. Because this isn't supposed to be political.

I salute you Olympians, especially those of you that have temporarily given up the benefits of this sweet, sweet weed in order to compete (I'm looking at you snowboarders). Kick some ass!

They are all corrupt. Same with the world cup. Bid to host was won by Qutar (sic) which is a tremendously rich oil state with no history of football to speak of.

The bid was quite contentious. It's over 100degrees in summer (when the world cup is generally held) and the bid stated that they would build fully air conditioned stadiums and fan zones but now they're saying it might be moved to winter! Which fucks up every Europeans league for two years. It's a fuckin joke and it was obviously driven.by money.

this year in formula one there is going to be the sochi grand prix, which is basically built around the streets of the olympic center.. it's not the first time a race track has been built around a former olympic center, as barelona had done the same back in the 80's, but man o man, i can't imagine the race going much better then the olympics..
maybe something bad will go down at the olympics and they'll pull the race, but i have my doubts as they still race in bahrain even though they're basically having a civil war there..

They have worked hard and made a major commitment in order to compete with others and (hopefully) push the physical bounds of our species.

Your kinda young, but America boycotted the 1980 summer Olympics due to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. This had repercussions on the '84 Olympics. If you don't want to watch, I can't blame you, but you might consider reconsidering your view.

I saw him interviewed recently. The boycott is his largest regret. That says a lot as his Presidency had no shortage of them.
