Nice tacit admission why college education costs are soaring
Kid, If you worked jobs for years and never made more than minimum wage, college is not for you. It would be a waste of money. You obviously have other problems.

College just gets your foot in the door.

I have made more than minimum wage

Do you only speak in assumptions?

53% of the country makes less than $30,000/year, that's unacceptable

The problem is the current distribution of wealth, which is ironic because that's all conservatives talk about, except they want it to keep going the other way

You can keep your head in the sand all you want

Wealth is not a fixed number. Wealth is created. If you disagree, how did we go from having nothing to being so wealthy over 300 years??

I went from making nothing to making over 60K per year in less than 3 years by starting small businesses. Now the limit is based on how much time I want to put into it.

You keep trying to tell other people how to run businesses, what to pay people, etc. If it is so damn easy then just start your own business.

But you getting a college degree is pointless because you will be unemployed with a huge amount of debt and in the same hole you have created for yourself now.

You keep looking for a loophole when hard work is the only way up unless you win the lottery.

You say my head is in the sand but I am happily employed doing what I choose to do making more money than I need. If that is the definition of head in the sand, so be it...

don't you service a dozen dudes every day at $20 a pop?

people who mow lawns, shine shoes, or cut hair have a more valuable service than yours.

you're not really in a position to be handing out advice to anyone.

I dont service dudes no matter what the voices in your head tell you...

I agree that wealth is not fixed

Good for you

I haven't told anyone how to run their business

I've pointed out the fact that before the 1978, business was booming as well as the economy because we had a strong middle class. Then it changed with First National Bank of Boston v. Bellotti;

"First National Bank of Boston v. Bellotti, 435 U.S. 765 (1978), was a case in which the United States Supreme Court ruled 5–4 that corporations had a First Amendment right to make contributions in order to attempt to influence political processes. In his opinion, Justice Lewis Powell ruled that a Massachusetts criminal statute prohibiting the expenditure of corporate funds for "influencing or affecting" voters' opinions infringed on corporations' "protected speech in a manner unjustified by a compelling state interest" as he put it. It was heavily cited in the majority opinion of Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, 558 U.S. 310 (2010)."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_National_Bank_of_Boston_v._Bellotti

Then, this happened as a result;

But you getting a college degree is pointless because you will be unemployed with a huge amount of debt and in the same hole you have created for yourself now.
Tell my generation something we don't already know

You keep looking for a loophole when hard work is the only way up unless you win the lottery.
That's the thing, we are ready and willing to work hard! How is working 2 jobs to support yourself not working hard? You are implying that my generation does not work hard whenever you repeat "all it takes is hard work" - guess what! We've been working hard and more of us are riding the poverty line than ever with no medical benefits. That is proof positive that it requires more than just hard work to financially succeed in this country in 2014, and that is the point I am trying to get across that you simply don't seem to want to accept

You wouldn't work for peanuts, either, so how can you expect anyone else to?

You say my head is in the sand but I am happily employed doing what I choose to do making more money than I need. If that is the definition of head in the sand, so be it...
This isn't about how comfortable your life is, it's about the rest of Americans notbeing able to reach financial success because of barriers put in place by our government.

It's like we're playing monopoly, except you start out with two dice and I only get one, you get $200 every time you pass go and I only get $100. The game is fixed against the lower/middle classes. Congratulations on your success, but in the immortal words of Tupac;

"Now tell me what's a mother to do?
Bein' real don't appeal to the brother in you.
You gotta operate the easy way.
"I made a G today" But you made it in a sleazy way.
Sellin' crack to the kids. "I gotta get paid,"
Well hey, well that's the way it is."

i don't think min wage is supposed to be a living wage to rase a family on , raising min wage closses the gap between my wage and min wage , it also will increase the cost of living making my dollar worth less

That is a great point many people overlook. Minimum wage jobs are intended to be a stepping stone to bigger and better things.
I think the proponents for higher minimum wage are more for penalizing the business owner than helping the employee, just my opinion.

Funny, I went to a University that I could never have if I had to pay for it. The bootstrap argument applies to scholarships too. There is no reason why everyone can't just do what I did.

True that, education is an essential part of the bootstrap boogie.
Grats to you bro.

Minimum wage jobs are supposed to be a stepping stone, but they're not

Again, the scholarship suggestion would work for a few students, but not everyone.. It fails to address the majority of students who would not qualify or receive a scholarship to pay for school

It's like putting a band aid on a bullet wound

Don't you think we should make school cheaper instead of telling kids to take out loans? Don't you think an educated population is better than an uneducated population? Shouldn't we be trying to make the route to get there as easy as possible for students? Innovation leads to new technology, new technology leads to new jobs, new jobs lead to a stronger economy.. It follows that education should be the main focus and spending $200 per textbook and $140 for parking is absolute madness

How did I have an advantage over you? I just started my businesses 3 years ago. Are you saying things have changed that fast??

The problems that are creating lack of jobs is lack of investment capital, excessive regulation, Obamacare & people demanding more money regardless of what a job actually produces... What incentive do employers have to hire people right now??

You demand higher wages and you will have less jobs at the higher wage. How does a higher minimum wage help you if you still cant find a job??

You are the one that is having a problem getting a good job. Many people here are making suggestions and instead of listening and trying to help yourself you spend your time arguing with them. Maybe that is part of the problem right there eh??

You seem to be a level headed nice guy, so don't take this the wrong way.

Just about all the people i know are pretty successful.
The one thing all of them have in common is, they are go getters, they always figure out a way to solve problems and get around obstacles instead of focusing on why they can't.

I show graphs, numbers and supreme court cases to support what I'm saying, what have you shown to support any of this?

Education is not accessible and scholarships are intended to shop out less than 2%. It was sarcastic, it is a bullshit argument. If everyone got scholarships college would just be free. The cost of education in terms of societal value is immeasurable.

Padawanbater2, with all due respect, you are relying on graphs and theories of other people, I believe nlxsk1 is supporting his claim from real personal experience, that's hard to refute,

Aah, I see, you forgot the '/s' :bigjoint:

I agree. I wouldn't have a problem paying higher taxes to ensure high school kids who want to go to college could go, I realize that having an educated population makes my life better in the long run, as well as the rest of the country as a whole
