Things are moving right along.

I have picked out my nodes for the next topping and direction change. Be sure it is at the same node position on both sides. Notice that I have, again, done this very early and am leaving the fan leaves to assist in growth. Other than that, just like before, remove all growth below that point - or in this case, all growth inside of those points.

Now, another waiting game for a couple of days, then I will start directing our new growth in new directions!

See you soon!

Am I right that you removed a set of growth tips and fan leaves on each side (skipping a node)? They grow kinda close together on this plant, which is good.

I think the answer is yes, but I have provided a photo just in case. I snipped at the orange line and removed all of the growth below my selected growth tips and accompanying fan leaves.

It helps to keep in mind what we want as the end result prior to letting the plant just take off - radical-main-lining-sm.jpg

My situation is in miniature comparatively, but the principle is the same. On the below image, the black lines are the cuts / topping - we just performed cut 2.

I think in pictures rather than words, so these help me a LOT!

Everything looks perfect so far! Looking forward to seeing it develop some more.

I like what you are doing here. I'm a fan of strawberry cough, absolutely great stuff, i grew it last year or the year before. Didn't do any topping but LST'd the heck out of her. How long does it take to veg out something like this?

Well, puff, with that growth being over a 5 gallon bucket, probably a solid month to 6 weeks AFTER the seedling stage. I figured I would add about 3 weeks onto my veg time (at 19 days now total after seedling) with my small scale. After the point in the photo, it TAKES OFF from there. That would be a bushy SOB if the inside growth hadn't been stripped each topping. Keep your eyes on the PRIZE!

Thanks, Dawg! Talked you up to Jeff @ A51 the other day. Wanted to be sure you, Daveroller, and Bad Karma got props for sending me that way. It IS the whole point of the community, isn't it? :bigjoint:

I didn't create the term...lol. I thought that too. I was like - "I gotta read this. They shootin' up a plant with roids or somethin'?"

As you can see, Shakira is recovering just fine.

Will be adding a new main-lining victim in the next week or so - Willomena (White Lemon).

Both looking really healthy! Willomena looks more Indica than Shakira does. It'll be interesting to see how they compare after they're mainlined.
"What does he win, Bob???!!!!" :bigjoint: Right on, Dave! Willomena is 50/50 (or thereabouts - they don't say specifically, but is an 8 week flowerer). Shakira is 25/75.

I don't know if anybody is keeping track, but I am at day 21 veg-wise for Shakira. I will try to mark each week.

Day 25 in Veg

Shakira_2-15a.jpg

Going to remove the remaining fan leaves left in place from previous step as growth tips represent close to an equal surface area as that supplied by them (they aren't needed)

Shakira_2-15b_cuts.jpg

Will let her recover for a couple of days, then start directing those growth tips.

It is important to note that I have been giving virtually no nutrients. MagiCal every other watering. I had started to get her to the point of quarter strength veg nutrients, and watered that way once. After that, I saw the very tips of the leaves indicating it was too much following a defoliation step - which makes sense in hindsight, since we do not have much vegetative growth overall and have been reducing it as we go. I am going to wait and see when she indicates that she needs it, but expect to start 1/4 strength nutrients about the time bondage is finishing.

your plant looks exactly like what I did to my plant, heres a tip from my mistake, give it a bit to heal before more bondage. I stunted my plants growth and stressed it a bit by being very aggressive with the training, however it did survive and now is a huge Y sativa plant (island sweet skunk).

I can also tell you by experimenting with topping that it is better to do it later than what you did, let wilomena go to at least the 4th node then top and LST you will get 4 colas, your plant you just topped will have 2 colas you can double the yield by waiting a bit longer :) GL

The plant I just topped will have 8 colas when I'm done. It would have 4 if I let it go now - first topping creates 2, second round 4, third 8. I appreciate the advice. I was aware I started early, and said as much.
Performed surgery yesterday. Something to note...I am aware I started too early....
I am waiting until Willomena gets to the 5th node and chopping down to the 3rd.

Thanks, Dawg! I don't know about having a handle on it, but it is a lot of fun. It is a bit depressing to see that Willomena catch up so fast, though. I am trying to get a fix on how much time total this will add to my veg time. It seems like this is like everything else in life...The best laid plans won't get ya laid like ya planned...lol. They really are like disobedient little children :-o
