Looks like it's time for another update! It is now the 31st day of my grow and besides being impatient to get it finished everything is looking excellent. I left off with pics from the 17th so lets take it from there.

This is from the 19th,19,21,21,21,21,21,21,21.
2014-03-19 11.58.06.jpg2014-03-19 11.58.14.jpg2014-03-21 16.31.36.jpg2014-03-21 16.31.58.jpg2014-03-21 16.32.01.jpg2014-03-21 16.32.05.jpg2014-03-21 16.32.08.jpg

I am very pleased with how she is looking. Here are a few more.
These would all be from the 22nd.

These are from the 23rd,

Another month and I hope to be harvesting.

These shots were an experiment that I thought of and I am very happy with, so I thought I would share the technique. This is how I am going to shoot my extreme closeups. It is a little bit of a challenge to get the loupe centered on the lens but you get the hang quick and the results are outstanding.

With this kind of closeup you can take a bunch of pics then review them on your big screen to inspect the trichs.

Party on,
Jack

Ooft, your grow is exquisite! I can't believe this is the same revegged clone from way back when. Surely less than a month to go now.

Outstanding, man. The student becomes the master.

You don't mean like this do you?

From one of my favorite movies of all time.:hump:

Thanks again Jim, I appreciate it. Now I just need to make sure I harvest at the right time. Do you have any tips on what you look for? Everybody says something different. And on different strains I can see where it could be confusing. I have read that the white strains like, Northern Lights, White Widow, Crystal and one or two others rarely get any amber in the tricks. My friend let his White Widow go a long time waiting for some amber color and never really saw any. He finally harvested when the leaves were starting to yellow. We think it might have been too long as the stone from this batch hits you slow and a little almost weak but as you keep smoking you keep getting more and more stoned till you get totally coach locked, and zombied out. That seems to be what people say about weed that went long on the flower cycle. At least that is what we think as these are not the normal characteristics of White Widow. I do know that this Kush will get some beautiful amber in the tricks toward the end so hopefully it will be an easy call. LMK what you think.

Agreed - great movie. All three are great.

Choosing when to harvest isn't an exact science, and you're right - you'll get a bunch of different answers based on the preferences of the grower. I buy seeds from reputable seedbanks, so I tend to look at the genetics of the strain and pitch it around the flowering time stated by the seedbank, usually a weekish longer than they suggest because I use CFLs. When it gets close to the recommended flowering time, I use a jeweller's loupe to examine the trichs close up every day. This requires a steady hand, and it takes a little practice to master the magnification/clarity balance without shaking too much and losing focus. I like to get right up close to the biggest buds and inspect the trichs on the buds themselves, not the frosting on the leaves. For me, they're easier to see clearly. You could order a digital microscope, which makes checking trichs easy work.

You're looking at the very tips of the trichomes; each has a tiny little bobble on the top of it. The bobbles will be translucent for much of the flowering process, until a few weeks from harvest. At that point, some will start to turn opaque. If you're not sure whether they're clear or opaque, they're most probably clear. The bobbles really become unmistakeably 'milky' near the end of bloom, so just be patient. Once around a third are milky, that usually tells me there's probably only a couple weeks left before I start seeing amber, so that's about the time I start thinking about flushing. I tend to chop before there's much amber, maybe 20% tops. The rest are predominantly opaque, with a small percentage of clear.

I really try to stick to the same formula, save the little tinker with my setup here and there, so I can't comment on whether loads of amber gives more couch-lock, and more clear/opaque gives a cerebral high. All of my grows are harvested when the trichs look mostly milky, and I let the strains genetics dictate whether it's couchlocky or cerebral. I've read that by leaving it flower for too long can lead to THC degradation.

Most of my Indicas have been harvested at around the 55-65 day mark, and the few Sativas I've grown have been at between 65-80 days.

Peace

I was on Amazon yesterday looking at the digital microscopes. I couldn't find anyone on the forums that was using one to give me some feedback so I decided to wait. But, I am rethinking that decision. I think I will be picking one up very soon. I was looking at this one. Any thoughts or preferences for a specific brand of scope.

Thanks

That one looks good, albeit fairly expensive for its intended purpose. I would use a jeweller's loupe for your first harvest, and then determine whether spending 75 notes on a microscope is necessary. If you're able to clearly see the trichs with a $5 loupe, maybe spend the microscope money on LEDs or something else experimental. If you're struggling with seeing trichs through a loupe, then yeah, maybe invest in a microscope.

I'm hesitant to suggest other growers spend money on things, especially if I have no experience using those items. What does your friend use?

I get what you are saying. I have a couple of different loupe's and handheld pocket microscopes and don't have much of a problem beside limited depth of field. While I was researching the digital microscopes I did see 3-4 recommendations for this one. They said these were being given out at the cannabis cup a few years back, and they say that it has a generous depth of field and it's only $4. Worth a try. I'll let everyone know how it works out.

It looks like my account is one of the ones that's being difficult so I am going to try a short test post before I spend a bunch of time composing a long post. Lets see if my pics come through a few close ups taken on the 24th.

Well, so far so good. I am very pleased with both of my grows at this point and I can highly recommend the Botanicare Kind series of nutrients. These are my first grows ever and at this point everything is going very smooth. I am guessing about 20-30 more days and it will be harvest time! Then it will be this.bongsmilie I can't wait. So here are few more pics for your viewing enjoyment. These are from the 25th,

It looks like you can only attach 10 pics to a post. Have to talk to support about that. Back later with some more.

Thank you so much. I absolutely love the way this strain looks and smells. The White Widow in my other cabinet should also be a massive resin producer it is almost at the point that it will start frosting up.

That big cola on the bottom left is the main stem. I hope it keeps getting fatter and fatter.
