MMPR Grow op: Small Scale

I think delaying may be a way to cut down on final licenses, but I honestly doubt this is an intentional plan on the part of HC. I have heard they have over 700 applications in the que at the moment. It will be a lengthy process for approval because of the sheer numbers of applications. That is also why we are hoping to find someone who has already applied that needs investment capital to keep afloat through the length of this process. Anyone out there need help, especially if in greater Toronto area, please connect with me any time to discuss if we would be a fit. [email protected]

hmmmm is that another way they get us to stop or quit? delays, hoops, then hold in security bs till we quit?
I honestly believe that there is no grand conspiracy with this program. To think so gives the government far too much credit in my opinion. I think the level of trepidation shown with the employees working for health Canada is pretty consistent other government employees. Stay the course, jump through the hoops the put up for us and we will get the licenses we are working so hard to attain.

Wow you guys are naïve.. Do you really think hell Canada wants 700+ commercial growers out there? There making all the small guys jump through ridiculous hoops in hopes they will just give up. I wouldn't be surprised if they made an amendment to the mmpr regs that puts a cap on the number of LP's. How many have they licenced in 6+ months, 12 or something..lol..at this rate it will be 20 a year. I cant believe people are still trying to be a part of this farse of a program.

^ pretty much the last post sums up the truth.

The front line workers may not have a clue about what is going on but I'd bet my 100 plant garden the final approval is given by someone directed from the minister and PMO staff

Whether it is government conspiracy or not, I don't know, but for sure it will be very difficult for any small-time grower to survive the application process. That is seriously why I am asking if anyone out there has applied and needs capital to keep going.

We would like to invest in this market and foster a smaller operation with heart. We don't have background in marijuana specifically, but lots of background in other entrepreneurial endeavours, lots of business experience and know-how, lots of connections, and working capital. We have the connections to larger capital and movers and shakers as needed should it come to that as well.

We would like to see someone with a real passion for this industry have the opportunity to make a legitimate business out of it. If that's you, or if you know someone who is struggling because they've applied and invested already and are now playing the waiting game, please pass along our info and have the connect with me for more info on how we might work together. My personal email is [email protected].

Final approval is actually given by a man named Benoit P Sèguin. The conspiracy fears can seem very real when we are faced with so many obstacles but if you look at the regulations the conventional pharmaceutical companies face we are getting off pretty light. The 10 light shows will not be able to to become economically viable companies under the MMPR regs, that's a true statement. The overhead involved in setting up is just too high but they don't need to be huge either. I think it is possible to be very successful with a small to medium sized operation. Good luck everyone.

We contact health canada ever two weeks for sure. We also hired a lobiest in Ottawa that shakes things up for us whenever they go quiet. In addition to the lobiest we hired a consultant to help with our application. We felt the need to take these additional steps because we kept slipping between the cracks and there was no accountability. Also we didn't speak health Canadian at the start of all this. I honestly feel if we had these professionals on our side from the beginning we would have had our license months ago.

Crazy to know that you and quite a few others that ive spoken with have been stuck in the security clearance process for so long, especially considering that you guys were amongst the first 50 to submit. Although we do feel that HC has communicated fairly well with us so far, we worry about a big delay with phase 2 as well.

You mentioned that you feel that if you'd hired a lobbiest from the beginning you would have had your license months ago. Hiring a lobbiest is something we are considering.

Just so I kinda know what to expect, what has your lobbiest done for you? And can u give me an idea of costs for his services?

I would really like to hear from people who have cleared phase 2 and have received a buildout letter. How long did it take to process security clearances? And did you hire a lobbiest or someone else who was able to help expediate the process?

No one sees anything wrong with the fact that you have to keep following up with HC or hire a "professional " to work with HC.

Honestly we aren't dealing with nuclear weapons or hazardous waste. Essentially the only major issue should be security as the rest of the items covered for a grow should be scaled similarly from a home garden.

The process on HC shouldn't be that long either, but they make the rules and process so vague it allows them to play with the smaller guys.

Why didn't health Canada come out with exact guidelines for minimum compliance, they obviously know what they are looking for since they have approved several already.

We hired the lobbyist because contact with health canada dropped off completely, any request for an update was answered with the standard dismissive response. Literally the same day we hired him we had a response from health canada. We have called on him a few times and each time it was followed immediately by a response from HC. His fee was $1200. Well worth it.

Thanks for the info!

Got on the phone today, spoke to a few different guys, not sure how accurate this is but I was told that there are only 6 guys from the RCMP that have been assigned to preform security checks for all these applicants.

So if every company has on average 3or4 officers/directors to security clear multiplied by 700+ applications, that's a lot of work for 6 guys.

Apparently the way it works is these guys check you out, write a report, submit that report to HC and HC has the final say. There's also an appeal process if you get denied.

One thing I wonder is can one guy in your company really slow down the checks and if one person doesn't clear checks, can that person then be removed as an officer of the company or do you automatically fail?

Still waiting to hear from people who have received comfort letter but I guess they're all busy building.

Also has anyone been denied based on security clearances alone and wants talk about it let us know what happened?

Ummm you know security checks are all done through computers. All the records of people are there. It's a very comprehensive list. To say that it's a lot of work is a load of crap unless they are doing an investigation on any suspected criminal element.

Still marveled on how tweed and other big producers got through fine but a smaller one which is probably easier to understand and work with takes months.

its a deterent for the small guys, they have to jump hoops, they quit. the security checks are not done by computer! if they are running a basic criminal check ya sure, but the L,P checks are done threw the U,N if you have any issues, the second L.P application has ties to crime syndicates so they are dead locked. no you can not just delete said bad person from the application. you will be denied. you can repeal but you cannot reaply for 5 yrs

well then there must be a issue with some apps, cause theres 30 approx. in total. that will be on the HC web site soon, 12 now 20 more coming. any word on ltd, inc, companies being denied? ive heard of 3 personal in my area, but no investment, really, rent everything ect.
Our app has been with them since August. Passed securtity and all of that great stuff, now waiting for...well I really don't know what we're waiting for. I'm always reluctant to bug them too much in worry that our file will slip off a table for a while.

Anyhow, wondering where you got the 30 apps info, I'm hoping we're part of that batch, it's not easy blowing thousands upon thousands each month without the ability to generate revenue. Remeber the consulation phase of the MMPR. This new MMPR system was designed with "Small Business" in mind. Those who fit that bill are a bit out of luck as it is now apparent.

Also I wanted to second or third the fact that with 700 apps HC is swamped. It is also a fact that there is no way in hell that 700 apps will be approved. I think HC is aiming for the 50 per year target that was discussed in their study.

Hey thanks for sharing.

Just to be clear are you saying that you were informed that you had passed security clearances months ago and still have yet to receive a buildout letter?
