so do you have to point these crees a certain angle>? what works best, directing the light from the side, by running them sideways, or shine them directly down, by hanging them verically? I know the expensive led lighting systems have to be angled properly so it made me wonder

Yeah, at this point, I think you're right. I'm going to get a 2 or 3 bulb splitter, some cord and put my own thing together with some Cree bulbs. I might choose something else later on down the road, but it seems like the best choice at this point. Thanks for the suggestion.

Don't use the bulb splitter, terrible umols. With or without CFL's.

Any suggestions for what kind of fixture or fixtures to use?

I have some different types of homemade fixtures I made a while ago in my sig... one uses an old hood from a piggyback ballast off a 1000w MH lamp and the others are stripped down Home Depot 3 light bath fixtures....

[I haven't updated in a while, threw a disk out 8 weeks ago or so and just starting to be mobile again.....]

Capn' use to use these and they are dirt cheap...a 4 light cluster, they make a 3 and 2 way too..

What do you guys suggest for a 2x4x5 tent, utilizing a (5) 5gal Bucket URDWC system.
Mostly, I will flower in it. I was looking at (2) of the RW-150 or should I go (1) XGS-190 and (2) RW-150, or (1)XGS-190 and (2) RW-75, man decisions, decisions. Please guide a fellow here. I've read a lot about A51 lights here at R.I.U but I'm still confused on what combo. Are (3) LED's to much for that grow space. Thanks for the help.

You would only need two lights to cover your 2x4 grow space.
The RW-150 yields a little better than the XGS-190, due to the deeper red spectrum.
Otherwise, they're pretty similar, except for the color of the light emitted.
If you're looking for the bigger yield, go with two RW-150's.
If you're interested in seeing what an all white LED light can do, go with two XGS-190's.
The bigger issue for you is height, as you need 18"-24" between the light, and the canopy.
If you can manage that, you'll be all set.

You might also consider BML Horticulture bars

My led tent is 2 x 4 x 5

2 @ 3ft bars will be here today, which I am adding as supplements to my 2 ufo90s (3500/5000) that were gifted by Jeff at A 51

The bars can be purchased individually, and in various lengths. This can be helpful with budget constraints, as mj does not need massive light during veg.

I think these bars can be much closer to the plants + have passive cooling

Jeff, aka Eraserhead here on RIU, knows his stuff, and always gives honest advise. Three RW-75's will probably give you the most even coverage, but I would think two RW-150 will give you better results in flower. Either way, your garden will be fully illuminated, so the choice is yours, sir.

Realistically it is the same light, The JoyHydro 180w might have a little more than 87w's at the plug, and then again it might not.

The lenses can help penetration depending on their angle but more than likely are just getting in the way and taking away 10% of the light output thru diffusion.

Then you have the funky spectrums, no doubt that they will veg/flower, but optimally?

At least with CFL you know your spectrum.

To my understanding 90 deg lenses are the most efficient optically (or in other words, least detrimental) Apparently anything else (60,120) can create significant losses. The size shape and material the optics are made from are all factors. Google LED OPTICS EFFICIENCY etc.
