Possible start of spider mites?

First time grower, I've already suffered through fungus gnats but those were a lot easier to diagnose and figure it out and get it dealt with ASAP.

I've looked around quite a bit for information on spider mites, but I've never really found any pictures showing early damage from spider mites mainly just webbed plants or just leaves that have been chewed to death.

I took some pictures and high lighted the suspect area's. I don't have the best camera in the world so bear with me :| Just an iphone camera and a shaky hand.

PS: Also looking at the second photo for another time the one with 5 red circles I found a small white circle in that picture, but it doesn't mean anything.

Any help is appreciated :)Iphone first batch 062.JPGIphone first batch 064.JPG Iphone first batch 067.JPG

Did you take a look at the bottom of the leaves as well? If so, did you see any actual mites? Do you have a jeweler's loupe that you can take a closer look? Also, is that tin foil all around you grow area?

Yes, I have looked under the leaves and I can't actually see anything at all but where the marks are on the top of the leaves on the bottom side of the leaf the spot looks translucent almost more so than the leaves themselves are, I do not have a jeweler's loupe. And no, that is not tinfoil, It looks and sort of feels like tinfoil but it's much stronger and doesn't get all crumpled up and ruined if you were to mess it up.

I've looked many times and can't seem to see anything on the tops or the bottoms of the leaves, stems even looking through the bottom of the leaves up towards the light hoping it would make any dots on the bottom stand out more, and still nothing.

What I'm starting to think is that I burnt the leaves with water because, up until about 4 days ago I didn't have a timer so I'd get up at 10AM mist the plants and turn the lights on. These marks started appearing about 4 days ago when I picked up a timer for obvious reasons so the lights now go on at 9AM and don't get misted until later when the lights are at full working capacity and it's just too intense I guess?

This question doesn't just go to you, but anyone who happens to read this. Do you think the above ^ would cause these markings maybe?

The chances that you kill them all in 1 treatment are very slim!!!
The eggs will hatch and the reinfestation begins.......You should always treat about 7 days apart, with what ever method you choose. Be sure to spray the surface of the soil or Coco also!

Every one should keep in mind that incomplete treatments for mites or any other insect WILL contribute to the insect becoming IMMUNE or RESISTANT to the substance used!!!! This is true with all organic compounds and most chemical solutions too! BE COMPLETE!

Can't get rid of them? Go right to Forbid 4F from Bayer Ag. Look on ebay for small amounts as 8oz is around $250. It takes 6 drops to 1 gallon so you can see why.

To the OP,,,,,I do NOT see mite damage!
Take a breath and calm down.....Take it easy and be patient.

I don't care what the label says....treat twice at 5-7 day intervals!
Mites resistant IS BAD!!!! It's happening,,,,help prevent it!

Almost every book on growing anything will say to treat twice to be sure!
Lazy will cost you down the road in one way or another...Hell son,,,I'll bet they're still in the house/shed/greenhouse, etc. You didn't treat that did you? Give them time and they will return...last time I got them I bombed the building....no mites for going on 3 years!

LOL, after saying that I'll get them this summer.....I'm ready.

Based the pics and the info, I would say you are ok. I would keep an eye on the situation. If you see more spots coming, then it wouldn't hurt to treat.

Good luck and keep us posted.

hard to tell if thtose are an outside plant, judging on the reflecting material I assume it's an indoor grow?
reason being, is leafhoppers leave damage EXACTLY like that, small clusters of chewed leaves. It's not mites. looks like leafhoppers or baby grasshoppers to me. 99% sure it's not mites.

Not to start an argument, but chemicals do NOT = chemical, = chemicals. They are not created equal, SOME are a NASTY type you DON"t want to be in contact.
with. DDT, for example is a nasty one.

It is indoor, from seed, I'm pretty sure it's from spraying the leaves with water after the lights have already been on, I sprayed the plant down the other day tops and bottoms of the leaves to make sure nothing was on it just with plain water, and noticed at the same time that where a lot of marks are is where the water would tend to pool if I sprayed too much on them and it turned into droplets.

I don't think that's from spraying water with the lights on. I can't tell, but the first pic (top one) looks like something is munching on your leaves. As always its impossible to tell for sure without being there, but i'd hate for the problem to get worse because it was misidentified.

there is different types of mites and it has taken me alot of yrs to understand it. two spotted, broad mites, cyclamen and more. if you take a good microscope very carefully look at underside of leaves for eggs. i would look for clear eggs very small.

So far everything looks fine, the new growth has no spots or "munching" spots on it and my 2 node high 8 top baby plant has no spots on it at all, no water has been sprayed on this plant. My clones are doing fine as well no spots on them either. For now it's just a waiting game on anything else to appear or until I get a jewellers loupe to make 100% sure.

If it does start to go bad/worse I'm sure you'll see me back here again, or when she's done :D

chemical sprays on cannabis is a no no . you smoke the bud . and attacks your kidneys and live . your fucked. why not try a organic . if you cant see the mites on the bottoms of the leafs under a scope there are no bugs. I can see the bugs when I get them with out a scope . so mabe you splashes the plants with water with nutrients in it causing that .

NOT to argue. To point out.
DDT was banned years ago and has not been available sense!
Chems vs. not......It's what works for you........I hope you never get Root Aphids. There is no natural cure for those!!!
Pyrethrin is made from MUMS,,,,is that organic enough? Neem is concentrated from a plant too, right?

I don't use anything suspended in an oil, neem too.....It's an oil,,,stays on your plant eh? Smoking that too?

If you choose carefully,,,there are "chems" that work when nothing else will anymore.....they break down and are harmless in very acceptable times...Some are actually organic!

Now I'm not saying your wrong and I'm not saying my way is right. At least for everyone. I'm saying that being educated on all the available methods out there IS important to making the right choice, at the right time, for the right problem.

The fact that the insects we fight are getting resistant to the things we use against them is an alarming problem.
Ineffective use and overuse are the leading cause! When I see people sign on here with statements like "I've tried everything over and over and I can't get rid of my mite problem". Then it turns out that it's someone who for what ever reason will not use a "chem" or has used the method/product of choice ineffectively. Thus beginning to create "monster" bugs, I get sad.....I sure don't want them.
The same for statements like "chemical sprays on cannabis is a no no . you smoke the bud . and attacks your kidneys and live"
If you actually take the time to learn whats available and learn how they work, how long they last and how to use them properly. You can VERY easily choose safe and effective products....and yes, there are some pretty nasty things out there....I assure you, I DON'T use those!

Treat completely and effectively. Treat the room, shed or where ever also....Stressed plants put out a pheromone that attracts mites.....did you know that? Try not to stress your plants....Watch them carefully if you do.

I don't care what YOU treat with, as long as you do it right!
I don't like seeing broad or across the board statements from the "purist" either....One day you'll get a problem you won't be able to handle.....You'll either break down and use one of "those" products, or you'll pull'em and start over....I did, YEARS ago. I took the time to research carefully and in great depth.....I made my choice.

Just wanted to point these things out.......Do whats right for you.....But learn.

of course DDT has been banned for many years, my point was simply chemicals aren't created equal, and I never have claimed to be a purist, I've resorted to chemicals many a-times for mites, in my opinion NOTHING can combat mites that is totally organic, minimize? maybe. Slow down? maybe in cold weather but actually somewhat eliminate? Not in my luck of using. I didn't think I was coming off as a purist, but it seems like frequently i'm mis-interpreted on this site. If I get a bad explosion of mites, (which I grow in a shed in the redwood forest where LITERALLY the ground is crawling with bugs) i'll use azamax if it's bad, but only if it's bad, and that's not exactly safe stuff.
I also have somwewhat good luck with not crowding plants too closely, and having a layer of sand/DM on the top to slow down any migrations.

If u got them don't buy expensive chemicals. Dish soap and milk spray them we'll drench em but you'll have to apply for a week or two every four days. But if u want a sure thing go to Home Depot and buy a hot shot pest strip turn off fans let it sit in your room for 24 hours without fans next day turn on your fans and keep that pest strip in your room for a week it will kill everything and your plants will reward you
