Keeping thieves away

I still have a few rolls of Viet Nam era trip wire. One roll has 2 or 3 colors. Then I have these mousetrap looking things. They will set off a loud boom or a flare or whatever is the size of a 12 guage shot shell. Will not hold up to a real shot shell but the other stuff works good.

If your talking about bush growing which i think you are, not backyard then forget about dogs, you want to be as quiet as possible in there and who is going to feed and give the dog water?. Guns are no good as you wont be there when it happens. Heads on sticks wont stop a ripoff ,they found the patch and nothings going to stop them.
1-the main thing in not being ripped is to only working in early morning, do not visit in pm hours ( trail bike riders ,kids out of school etc), also hide the car. The car is the give away.
2- do not grow with a partner
3- dont show anyone
These are the reasons people get ripped off. Since i made these changes a few years back i have not lost a leaf. Prior to that i lost dope every year.

If you think someone is on to your patch you can use nail boards. Planks of wood 24"x 6" with 6" sharp nails sitcking out straight up ,bury the board just under dirt cover with grass, debris etc. When you see someone walking around town with a limp spending up you got your man.

I used that trick last night when I caught a bunch of teenagers fishing in my pond that I had warned not to come back.. they don't catch and release and I know they don't eat the fish..they also start fires and leave their trash for me to clean up. Very annoying to say the least and dangerous during the dry months. anyway, I made a few of those and put them on the tracks in the dirt road that they used. Don't think they'll be coming back.

In my case it was for their tires.. not their feet. That's what they get for trespassing on private property after being warned a million times.
I do not disagree with your sentiment, not one bit. Americans are litigious in nature, I was just shedding light on that a little.

A reminder to anyone considering installing trespassing deterrents. They will ruin your year by dragging you to court where you will more then likely lose.

If your deterrent harms someone good luck if they decide to lawyer up.

If you don't have a fence, a locked gate, and a "no trespassing" sign, it's not trespassing. Expect lawsuits. If anyone gets hurt, expect more than a lawsuit.

Around here, you can get arrested for trespassing on private property. I'm just not the type that calls the fuzz. They make me nervous.

I have gates, signs, its partially fenced in.. they're relentless. They tear gates and fences down or ride around them on their quads. They have also been poaching deer and instead of harvesting the meat, they leave them lay. Shoot them just for something to kill. Luckily, they haven't ran into any of my neighbors.. if that were the case their faces would be on milk cartons already. I'm the least of their worries.

This is surveillance not security unfortunately. Cameras will do nothing to stop a ripper, nothing. It takes someone in close proximity to actually BE a form of security.

Cameras watch.

People can deter and intimidate.

So after my plants have been ripped and I have been held at gunpoint what good does DVR footage do for me?

Cannot turn it into LEO, useless. Now I would have a recording of myself getting jacked pissing my pants and being held at gunpoint.

The more remote the location the more useless. This idea is excellent for home medical gardens though. The garden is often just in the other room, quick reaction to an alert in this scenario is GREAT!

You know what you can handle buddy. Do what you feel you need to do.

I was just adding those things for readers, lawsuits are no fun.

Oh and around here.. all you have to have is purple paint on a tree and that is known to mean " no trespassing"... no signs, fences, or gates needed.

Over the last 11 years I've had French Mastiffs. They're awesome dogs. Absolutely amazing if you have kids around. When it comes to guarding the home. Those dogs are "Charge and tackle' dogs. I've been on the receiving end of that one a few times during hard play and a dog in between the pup/grown up stage. It's 150+lbs of muscle slamming into your waist/upper legs at full running speed with the intention of bowling you over. If it doesn't knock you over, you're gonna be limping out of there. They're extremely docile and loving when it comes to family though. The only drawback I've seen. They're probably the most inherently lazy dogs on the planet. Which isn't a bad thing for lazy stoners
But a lot of people under estimate the alarm factor of small dogs. I had neighbors who raised long haired dapple dachshunds. At one point they had 4 of the little buggers and a doggy door. They had a 20 acre yard and if any strangers got within eyesight of one of those things all 4 were out and barking in 15 seconds.
I set em off quite a few times just on night strolls through the neighborhood.
i went for the combo:

the dachshund/corgie mix barks at everything, and the dane/mastiff mix starts paying attention when she does.

next up: GEESE! the ultimate guard animal.
