Nice looking crop!

Did you do a hanging-dry on the plants at all? Just make sure your dry and cure as slowly as you can, or else the bud will stay grassy and smoke harsh.

A lot of people cut the whole plant and hang it upside down for about a week, doing a good trim when they first cut it. Then a tighter manicure of the bud before putting in jars for curing.

There's a great thread on this in the Harvesting and Curing room.

I hung the big colas 90 grams ,68 grams , 59 grams , 78 grams all in a brown paper bag . I trim them and will manicure even more in 7 days or so . Then into jars for 3 weeks being burped everyday. Liberty haze smells amazing . The G13 and chemdawg really come through smell and structure . The purple trainwreck really is a nice plant and pleasure to grow ... I yielded 862 grams wet .. I'm doing a before and after . I'm expecting 25% dried gross weight . We will see

^ agree with that.. Imo common knowledge has it all wrong, i see little correlation between degradation of the trichs and peak ripeness of the plant, i too don't think that plant was ripe yet.. Maybe next time try to harvest based on the whole plant instead maybe you will be happier with the result

I harvest when the plant tells me it's ready, not the trichs, never failed to impress me. Hey, everyone is allowed their own method.
Well give me the benefit of the doubt . I obviously do not know ( my first harvest ) when the whole plant is ready . The only way to be close is look at the trichomes , and see what's amber cloudy clear . Some like that couch lock lots of amber and cloudy high ( so I've read ) some like a nice milky and clear mix for that cerebral into couch lock buzz . I'm no expert far from it but I will take your advice next time and take one down on looks and take one down on trichome pictures and compare the two. I will only look in the microscope at 1 plant and eyeball the other . Doesn't hurt to try /learn ? I'm all for it .

Thanks krypton . It literally is my first harvest . I think I will improve but I give myself a B . Solid B . I'm happy to say the least . And my Sunday has been good and sticky .!
Just getting to harvest the first go out is something to be proud of. You'll refine your thinking on further grows based on comparative experience. Each plant shows the "harvest window" a little differently. Some keep producing white pistils quickly even as the older ones are browning and receding back toward the bud. Based on just looking at your plant I also would have thought maybe another week or so would be right, but your trichome examination said otherwise. Looking at the plant is good, but I think trichome examination is better.

That said, there is no one day that's the right day to harvest. Harvest is a window of about a week one way or the other.

So congrats! Now just be on the lookout for mold and coast through the next six weeks of curing…and enjoy the fruits of your labor. :)

What happened to all your large fans?!? Could be part of why the plant looks so green and fresh..
I had 2 liberty hazes . Sativa dom. I defoilated 1 and the other one I left alone . That picture is the one defoilated . Never going to learn if you don't experiment . In hindsight though . Both were topped once . Both were LST as well . Both the same height ( within a few inches ) . I've read the articles online . I wanted to do my own test Kermit . Defoliation vs leave it alone . All fed the same nutes same light and 1 plant yielded 342 grams and the other 272 grams . 9 week liberty haze . Both same degradation or trichs . I experimented but realize this is strain dependent . Hey just trying to learn .

I did 2 strains liberty haze and HSO purple train wreck . Both are good plants . I wish I got a good purple pheno but I only can wish . I was getting my temps down at 59degrees at night trying . But no luck . Not mad though . ! She's a nice little girl to grow .

Good idea! My first grow i tried the whole trich thing and just couldn't see a huge difference and it was hard to tell when to chop with the conflicting info... Let me drop some knowledge on you loljk people who think they are changing the high by color of trichs are right to an extent BUT they are doing it wrong, you need to choose the high based on the strain profile because a plants peak maturity is very little amber plus amber will increase after it has been chopped! The guys who think they like couch lock and fifty percent amber and what not are simply confused, they are dumbing down a strain to get what they want from it instead of growing a strain that gives what they want by the proper harvest time anyway.. so by harvesting based on the maturity of the whole plant you are aiming for peak ripeness instead.. Here are some ways to tell, one important sign your plant is nearing the end is you will see capitate stalked trichs which are trichs that have grown longer than the rest and may be bent buy these only show up in the last couple weeks. You also will see that many of the hairs have receded and the plant colors will change to fall reds and purple light green and yellow, in the last few weeks of flower this no longer means you have a problem.. The last thing i watch is for a swell, you will notice the buds stop growing but the individual calyxes will plump up.. When that seems to stop plus you have capitate trichs and a plant that generally looks like it's ready to die.. That imo is it's peak point of ripeness! Not bad btw for a first go at all don't get me wrong just trying to throw out tips i had to teach myself that effectively brought me to the next level

Thanks for some good advice . I will definately be on the look out in about 4 weeks when my royal queen critical freebie and female seeds WWxbig bud finishes up . After that a female Hawain skunk haze will finish . Can't wait. I will definately apply your tips to those babies ..! Happy Sunday Kermit .!
