It's hard to tell if they're singles when they're on. At least not from a photo. I think they are actually, which still sadly makes them woefully inefficient in the making light department, but they can be driven harder than dual-die, hence the curiosity to see how hard they're driven. Probably pretty hard, which IMHO is why they have to use big heatsinks and active cooling. My dual 5s only ran at 630mA at standard voltages. I would expect quite a bit more from BD. Even with efficiency improvements.

Still think their stacked............can't tell shit from those pics............you'll be hard pressed to find decent true/quality 5w leds for all those "wavelenghts" that BD claims.

The real reason I am posting this, is to see if there IS a difference in companies according to light colors. The DIY community would probably know more details, if they actually test the diodes.
Cree is said to make good bulbs, but does Cress make all colors superior to all other manufacturers. Sylvania is a good company, could they possible make better reds than Cree, but inferior blues? Has anyone tested the bulbs output according to color?

Black dog states that the colors of the bulbs vary in manufacturer, so is that their secret?

Yeah they grew weed, but they were doubling as space heaters and just sucked down wattage to achieve results. So if you don't care about electricity and heat isn't a hassle for you then do what ya want, it's not like they don't grow weed. But those prices once you start comparing it to other panels, man, BD kills any value in the long run. Too much draw.

Hey PH, a lights off closeup, maybe with the camera's macro setting on, would be great. Basically you're looking to see if the LED light's diodes has one or two semiconductors. You'll know once you look at them.

Let's say you come to the conclusion that CREE makes great 630nms, OSRAM Oslon makes great 450nms and LEDEngin makes the best 660nms. Do you know what a pain in the ass it is to make a panel with three different manufacturer's diodes? Not impossible mind you, but sooo many variations and variables, you might as well just use CREEs blues and reds. Now in China they have a standard LED package that all companies must adhere to, which makes manufacturing that much more simple right off the bat, that if BD wanted to use different manufacturers diodes, it would that much more easier. They still have lots of work to see how the diodes work together and that's R&D and I'm unaware how much BD spends on that. From the look of BDs they could come out of any LED sign factory in China, which really doesn't give me a lot of belief in their diodes capabilities. Especially when BD tells you nothing about their LED's specs.

No, I dont.
How would one be able to tell if Black Dog is doing this, to justify the higher priced LEDs they sell, when compared to other companies. A person would have to take apart the unit and inspect the build looking for specific things? I would not think of taking my unit apart, since it would void the warranty, and BD offers a lifetime warranty. I am not electronically capable, I wouldn't be able to repair my light if I took it apart.

I hope this shot provides what you folks are looking for.

I think Black Dog did a super good job, for my first grow using LEDs.
compared to my past grows with HPS, the LEDs are just as good, if not better.

Have you seen MC's BD? His buds look great his panel not so much. But BD seems to be holding up their end of the warranty so far. Check your panel occasionally and if you see problems contact BD. And they're dual die btw.

I'm willing to bet every dark spot on this board is a blue led. They'll burn out pretty quickly and depending on how many controllers are in the light, will burn out a bank of led's around it.
This is identical to the lights i bought of ebay 5 years ago.

I would like to know if anyone has ever took apart their BD panel, and looked at it's components more closely. Are there any LED experts out there, that don't care about voiding the warranty?
Are the blue lights different? It would be interesting to find out.

I think most people that are "LED experts" stay away from the over priced , over driven, blackdog LEDs. They push their Chinese LED diodes way too hard , which they must use decent parts or we would see more returns on the forum. Anyway for the price blackdog is just way not worth it the A51s, Apachetechs,rapidLED and even advanced are so much better for the price. The grow shop near my house sells blackdog LEDs because I live in CO and apparently blackdog is from Colorado boulder area , they always tell me how amazing blackdog is until they saw my LEDs and now they don't bring up their over priced LEDs anymore to me.

I'm selling mine on Ebay once it comes back from warranty repairs. The COBs are killing it and the heat reduction from moving the power supplies outside of the tent makes me not want the BD back in there. I still say it's not a bad light. I won't call it the best, but the customer service guys at BD are pretty nice and it did grow some pretty nice plants for me.
