Markets go up and down, but rent is due on the 1st of every month.

Slum lord was my choice for investment.

Just out of curiosity, what's your average maintenance cost vs gross income, per annum, over a 5 year period? (That's a percentage or ratio, in case you're wondering what I mean).

Kinda have to agree with some of the advice on here so far. You're not going to get shit for a job living where u are. I worked 3 jobs when I was your age, for about 75 hrs/week. The only way I could make enough to afford to live in San Francisco and save any $ to pay for my culinary degree as well as an undergrad BA. I shared a room in a hostel with a 300 lb meth addict in order to do what I needed to do. Doesn't matter, a bed is all u need anyway. You need to work your fucking ass off doing shit you don't want to do so you can put some money away so you can move. Then move to a place where you can do what you want to do. The skies he limit, but no one's entitled to anything- you gotta put yourself in the best position possible to get what you want. If you don't, someone else will.

I don't think people were fucking with you @sunni . I thought they seemed to be offering advice and you got super pissed about it.

It's pretty obvious he was talking about a small business situation.

Small businesses don't always do things the same as the text books in university says. In a round about way they do. The language is different and it's informal.

I thought he was talking about rental properties. Even if there is only one unit, it will still have a maintenance cost.

All investment properties have maintenance costs. Only way to get out of that is do a lease to own and make them pay for any maintenance.

I guess ultimately I just have a problem with the wording of the OP. Saving money will not make you rich any more. The government needs far too much inflation for the average savings account to gain through compound interest which used to be a beautiful thing.

If you want wealth, if you want a retirement you have to invest your money. Either in property, hard assets, collectibles and/or in the stock market. Better yet invest in a small business. Those are ways to secure your retirement, not saving.

You must be really small if you can live inside a motorcycle.
umm its called a sidecart, and a joke. lol im saving for my future. I know a lot of people my age who would rather party and buy the latest I-devices. some of them have children that they don't take care of. on some 16 and pregnant shit. Ive been cursed with epilepsy so my social life took a hit and I gave up a lot (cigs, coffee, booze, partying, traveling, friends) All those things add up to thousands of dollars a year. A lot easier to save when you stop throwing your money away. And I really don't miss anything but my social life, Good thing I got RIU to keep me connected with people.

I say it all the time on here, but I save 5000$ every 2 years just on cigs, and that will only increase as the prices keep going up.
