Why should wealthy people pay a higher percent, when even at the same percentage as a middle class person they would pay hundreds, possibly thousands of
times more $$$ overall anyways?

I propose everyone pays the exact same percentage, with no deductions.
Call it a citizenship retention tax and it combined with a sales/consumption tax and corporate tax receipts has to cover everything the nation could need.
No moar deficits, and the dollar would arguably shoot up in value (which would help considering you're net importers).
