I've done it on some buds with mildew, SM90 and other non chemicals fungicides only go so far. Since I grow small plants I'd just cut the main tranches off, dip them into clean water and move the whole thing up and down. Pretty much all mildew would wash off the bud leaves.
Trichomes are not water soluble so there should be any loss. I got the idea from an old grower who says in the 70's-80's that's how they use to wash off mildew at harvest time.

Trichomes may not be water soluble but they do fall off, maybe not in the excess as to making ice hash but theres no way that your gonna get 100% great product out of doing that.

So, I was inspired by this thread to try a little bud washing myself and see how it compares side by side with my unwashed harvest. I had been reluctant to harvest any more since the mold has been taking more and more plants, but knowing I would be washing them made me a little more bold. So today I went out and harvested some of the healthier branches, removed the fan leaves any visible mold, but otherwise left the buds rather un-manicured. I used four 5 gallon buckets, the first with a roughly 1:3 h202 and water mix, second with warm water + 1 cup baking soda + 1 cup lemon juice, third with hot water, fourth with cold water. Vigorously shook and repeatedly dunked and gently squeezed buds underwater for 30 seconds each bucket, swung them to remove excess moisture, hung briefly in the sun, then moved indoors to circulating air hang dry area. I was extremely pleased to see the amount of debris that was removed from the buds and floated to the surface, and how clean the buds looked after washing, but I was skeptical that the trichomes would remain intact. So i broke out the jewelers loupe. To my surprise, even with my rather rough handling, the trichomes seem to have survived almost entirely intact. I can't even find areas where they are broken. I am now pretty excited to see how they dry, and how they compare to the unwashed buds after curing. From the looks of it I will get much more usable sugar trim because the dead bugs and bug poop all washed off. Here is a picture of my post-wash buds (On the pink hangar, the buds in jars and hung behind them are regular un-washed harvest), and some magnified pictures to show the damage (or lack thereof) to the trichomes.
