Are all Rooting/Cloning Gels/Powders Created Equally?

Just wondering what people are using for cloning. Do you use gel or powder? Are there any new products you may have tried that seem to be working for you better?

with one strain, I see roots in about 3 days with or without rooting hormone. Other strains seem to pop a lot sooner (like a week sooner) by being dipped in Clonex gel prior to being placed in the cloner.

I use plain tap water in the cloner set to a ph of 6.5 Obviously, some clonex gel drips into the solution. When I see nubs on the stems, I change the water with about a tablespoon of fox farms grow big and a drop or two of super thrive to a gallon of water (ph 6.5)....these are just my regular veg nutes. Currently I have 8 cuttings in my cloner from 4 strains and 6 are showing roots. 4 are thriving while two are just starting (the two are from different strains, so the delay isn't strain specific, just cutting specific). My sativa strain hasn't really shown any roots, but looks like it's about to pop. Long story short, a lot of it has to do with genetics!

Nothing, do the proper cuts and throw it in the ez-cloner. Roots in 8-12 days, strain doesn't matter.
That's what I do.

When I was using rockwool, I honestly noticed no difference in speed or root quality between using gel and not using anything at all.

Rootone in rapid rooter plugs. Always works.

Water in rapid rooter plugs. Always works.

I like rapid rooter plugs, lol.

I like a heat mat in there. Cozy.

Thats how I clone also...I use root riot cubes same as rapid rooters...I just soak the cube in roots excelerator and put the cubes in a tray and put some of same solution in it on a heat mat...have a 99% success rate so far...most root in 7 or less days...some a bit longer...I germ seeds the same way...way easy...just put the caldera of the seed facing up..

I cut open a piece of my aloe vera plant and use the gel inside the plant as my rooting gel. All natural and it has all sorts of goodies in it to help the cloning process
I second this, after I tried it I never used clonex or any cloning gel again, PLUS you can make foliar spray with the aloe too. I think every grower should have some comfrey, dandelion, and aloe growing at their house.

i'm all for using nothing at all with the aero/bubble cloners etc
but isn't it more effort to grow another plant (aloe) for rooting gel, than keeping a little bottle of gel in the fridge that cost £4 and last about 2 years or more

more effort sure, but really how hard is it to grow an aloe plant? it's simple, plus I have about 30 plants at my house (non-cannabis), so the extra effort is negligible
Look at the information on the cloning gel, lots of chemicals there and warnings. I can eat the aloe and it's good for me. Plus like I said an aloe foliar spray is GREAT stuff.
When it comes to effort there are lots of things I do for my plants to go the extra mile, my wormbin, my leaf compost, growing my comfrey and dandelions, bubbling my AACT or compost tea. Hell im thinkin about getting a couple rabbits for their manure...
Growing pot is sorta like being in a relationship (for me) in that the more attention you give them, the more they reward you.

Aloe grows extremely easy, pretty much grows itself. I have three of them, they do great with very little attention. I don't grow them for rooting gel though, never tried that.

If you already have house plants, aloe would be a great addition and aren't a lot of work at all. They don't even require a lot of light.

that's cool mate, if you are into growing plants anyway, i can see why you made your choice
yeah, it all works man, hydro, aero, organic, no till, super soil, miracle grow, etc, etc, etc. It's all a matter of preference.
For me, as soon as I started doing the aloe-foliar spray on them and visibly seeing the difference almost instantly, I was sold. But i'm an all-organic kinda guy.

man, ya gotta try the foliar spray and cloning attributes that aloe has, good stuff.

i would not grow plants myself unless they are cannabis plants, i am just not that interested in horticulture generally
i like smoking my own weed because i prefer it to the commercial weed and other peoples weed who grow that i have sampled

clonex works so does using nothing at all
for me its kind of a non issue, that i have never considered changing as its just not important to my setup
1 £4 bottle can last years and take hundreds of clones
i tend to grow fewer larger plants so i do not need cuttings every 2 weeks on a deadline
