A good buddy of mine who has a medical grow started making wax. The laws in Michigan are harsh. The police where watching him, kicked in his door, pointed guns at him and his family and children. He is now facing several big felonies. His kids are being taken away. He lost everything, his cars, house, wife, kids, freedom.

Weigh the risks. We are protected under medical laws. They can only protect us from what's in the law. Going over or messing with with other forms or extracts could make you loose everything.

Reality check. Cherish what you have. Don't let greed seal your fate.

I'm not really in to concentrates, so this could be a stupid question but...... is wax made with a solvent? Like butane?

From what I've seen, yes it is. Seems like it's a process that takes place after blasting, although like you, I'm not interested in any butane hash extracts, although with Michigan law being applied in different ways in different places, I'm curious as to if hash itself has fallen into that section. I haven't seen a case, and I generally keep a close eye on these matters, but doesn't mean it hasn't happened

Eta, while not my bag and I won't partake, doesn't mean it isn't good medicine for people. My concerns with it are from a manufacturing process, as people have made some news blowing houses, trailers, and apartments up being morons using a dense gas that is easily ignited.

While I'm not looking for an argument, it's really not worthwhile to consume, from a patient or end user perspective either.

Between use of safety and quality of materials, and practices, one could be ingesting a bunch of rather bad chemicals. Can it be done safely? I'm sure it can. Do I think the majority of people making it are doing it properly? Not at all. I wouldn't want someone unwillingly ingesting someone else's lack of knowledge, safety, or poor materials harming anyone.

Kent county. No, didn't frequent the clubs. Not sure what happened but from the sounds of it, they were watching his every move for months.

I smashed my extraction tubes about a year ago in a fit of paranoia. I like BHO myself and patients constantly ask for it. However, I decided I wasn't gonna sit in a cell and think, "Shouldn't have blasted that damn wax."

I think it's a felony just possessing the tubes even. I'm 100% "legal" in my state. The way most folks end up with heavy charges are "complications". The 2 most common are butane extraction "labs" (lol) and firearms. I have begrudgingly gotten rid of both "complications".

I still remember how paranoid I use to be, going in and out of my local hydro shop more than 2 decades ago!(a big shout out to Hahn's Lighting
in San Jose Ca)
Fast forward to a couple of years ago, buying cases of butane from my local headshop, i had that same fucked up feeling. That was it!
It's just bubble hash for me now also
Now I get all paranoid buying around 10 - 20lb bags of ice at a time from my local liquor store(just kidding)

sorry to hear about this KGP. you seem like a good dude and I am sure you keep good company, but your advise is spot on here. it is stories like this that remind me why I don't post pictures of my gear, I don't want to risk what I have worked so hard for. I used to post pics on a couple of other forums but they are either gone or not worth the time now. Maybe one day...

I also think part of the problem with wax is that it is all the rage with the young, dumb and no common sense crowd. Extracts have been around forever, but it used to be used by people with enough experience and knowledge to handle them.

Never saw the use of extracts. Good buds have always done the trick for me.

Real popular with young people for some reason. They always want to step things up in whatever they get into and leave the old folks to collect dust with their quaint ways.

I smoked hash oil back in 79 because it was offered once. If you have trouble with irritation from smoke I can see making kief but that is about it. Kids these days...

Yep, butane extracts are not new. It's the whole what's old is new again.

In Michigan, different counties seem to play by different rules. Cannabis in some counties isn't a priority, in others, primarily conservative they are a much higher priority. Same way some parts of the state don't care about shops, others did.

In the privacy of your own house, you feel safe. But you can only be safe if you play by the rules.

Is the couple extra plants worth it? Is blasting the trim or making edibles worth your freedom?

My answer is hell no.

I'm going to plead the 5th but I know this was a reality check that hit way to close to home. Let me just say that if the cops ran in my house right now, they would find only what I am legally allowed to have. And I'm going to keep it that way.

You make a good point kgp. And we should all remember to play by the rules as well as practice safe, and common sense approaches to our gardens.

I do know of a couple of cases that have been thrown out, although it's one of those things not to count on in the event of bullshit happening. One was an affirmative defense, basically a card less person was growing and was busted. Language in the law allowed that person to escape prosecution, although I can't imagine the stress, money and time that took. Another case involved over the limit plant count, which I'd have to check, but was thrown out due to something involving the plant count and usable material.

Nonetheless, be safe.
