A public union becomes a little bizarre. The workers are paid not thru voluntary exchange, rather thru involuntary exchange.
Collective bargaining done by people that do not provide services to people in a voluntary exchange is so very similar to a gang / cartel that it is hard to distinguish the differences.

GM is headquartered in Detroit. They wanted to move to warren where it would be cheaper and more central. The car czar wouldn't allow it.
We have city bus drivers making 6 figures.
We have city workers that have worked less than 10 years drawing fat pensions.
We allowed Monsanto to pollute the Detroit River because we didn't want to lose the jobs to Mexico, which eventually happened anyway.
We PAID people to come make movies, but won't give tax breaks to manufacturing.

Here is one negative that seems to be dear to your heart: Unions were created to keep Negros from entering highly paid trades. Unions hold a virtual monopoly on on some jobs that I know of, stationary engineers, for example. If you don't have a sponsor you ain't getting into their union. In the real world they call that nepotism.
On the other hand, I have no problem at all with unions of people banding together to strengthen their bargaining position with corporations.

Unions destroyed manufacturing in north america.
I agree that 100 yrs ago they were needed but union leaders have pushed the bounderies to the point that most cities cant keep up with unionized workers wages.
Ive never worked for a union by choice....i dont think i could be part of a group striking and missing 6 months worth of work for a 25 cent raise and a guaranteed lay off in six months.
Only those people working for more money than they deserve like unions.

Society has evolved a hell of a long way from 100 years ago.
People will not tolerate being dictated to the way they used to so a "big brother" isnt necessary.
Besides u can still remain a member of the union when all the jobs are gone because the owners cant land reasonable bids.
U may even get to be head union guy in the center of the closed up workplace.

Blatantly false because of the hundreds upon hundreds of labor laws we have in effect today.
Unions served their purpose many years ago, they are dying as we speak and for good reason.

Plus we outsource most work to asia now for a reason and i dont think its frequent flier miles.
Like i said unionized workers who are sucking gold out of that system love unions im sure for now you are happy but when your told sorry but we have no choice but to use cheaper labor u can ask urself if u still think they are the best thing ever.
My best friend started a business. Put out tens of thousands of dollars. Paid his workers about 20 and hour they worked 50 hours a week.
Someone convinced them to bring in a union. After 6 months of striking they settled for 28 an hour they now work 10 hours a week.
It goes both ways
