Do you really think the powers to be would simply sit back and watch the world crumble? The climate is changing, there is no doubt about that. Something needs to be done to ease the effects on the human race though. Why would we be exploring Mars if we're all just going to die in 100 years? Why wouldn't we just be living large and making the best of our last few years? Do you really think nobody is trying to save the human race?
Tell me, please; climate change is real, what do you think is being done on the large scale to help save us? Electric cars? Solar power? Organic vegetables?
The reason for going on the train was because of their attempt at cooling the atmosphere, which worked so damn well that everything froze.

The plot is that the earth was warming so scientists created a chemical that when dropped into the atmosphere would cool things down, but it worked so well the earth actually froze and a special self sustaining train was built that toured the frozen world with what was left of humanity on board.

It was much better than Sharknado. Chris Evans is a giant of an actor compared to Ian Ziering.
Bonus factoid: In Sharknado, Ian's vehicle is a Toyota Land Cruiser FJ62, but Tara Reid calls it a "Jeep".
Sharknado does have the cheese though, which makes it a cult classic. Snowpiercer will all but be forgot.

In most of the world, a "jeep" is any 4x4 like a land rover, range rover, jeep, etc.
