LED Comparisons?

Okay I pulled the trigger, from what I heard folks have their doubts about the onyx spectrum compared to the RW-150's.

So here is the plan I have 4 Onyx blooms done deal unless someone wants to take them off my hand I am going to put two onyx blooms one each on the outside of a centered Area 51 RW-150 for both 4x4 areas.

This configuration is a total of 650 watts over each verses 750 watts should I had gone with additional onyx led panels to bump up the light produce and get better coverage, 100 watts less, so some savings there in power and air conditioning. Since the RW-150's are supposed to perform better then the onyx, opting to add one of these panels with the two onyx blooms over each 4x4 should give a nice boost in production, in theory which I am hoping.

Sounds like a great plan! As you've seen there's plenty of success with the rw's. I haven't dealt with a51 personally but Jeff was one of the 1st guys I talked to about buying a commercial led and I was sold by his 1st response.Very helpful and a straight shooter. They were just a bit out of my range at the time . I'm sure your girls will love this set up! Looking forward to seeing everything in action.

Hey NapalmD,

Yeah I am psyched about it, I think I went with Onyx Bloom cause they appeared to be in the mix especially considering cost. However I just purchased the Area 51s for less then the Rapid Onyx Blooms, not by much but still less. So yeah can't wait to see what this setup will do!

One thing I do want to add Rapid Service has been exceptional I will say that much for them, not happy with failure rate nor not having inventory when I lost a unit and had to wait a few weeks for replacement.

If I understand correctly, the RW150 draws 155W and the Onyx draws 250W. I that is correct, the A51 probably dissipates about 130W and the Onyx about 210W so the cost per unit would not be comparable?

If the RW150 out performs the onyx in weight or equal and uses less energy, in the long run wouldn't the RW150 give the best bang for the buck? Or am I missing something here?

Yes I just saw Caps results and I am shocked the RW outperformed the Onyx. They should have pretty similar LED efficiency so either that was an anomaly or something is really out of whack on the Onyx. I wonder if they are transferring heat efficiently to the board/heatsink or maybe it was those frosted lenses causing havoc?

I hope it is something easily correctable so I can perform on mine

Well I am not sure I want to accept these results as what may be possible with these lights (.25 GPW) as they dried weight has come in at 32 grams per plant x 4...total 128 grams. I know I have done better with less wattage from the Dorm Grow lights, but then again I kept a perfect environment in that tent. I also battled some high temps and humidity as my environmental controls need dialed in next run this should be improved going forward.

I did not scrog but topped into multiple main colas with only 500watts covering 4 square feet average distance of LED from canopy top about 22 inches.

I am working on a last minute scrog same wattage using 2x3 rectangular weave 16g wth green plastic coating.
I didn't really have to suspend it from ceiling rafters but I did, I rested on top of otherwise would be same mainline cola approach and took those stems and wove them into the mesh.

The following picture is prior to laying mesh over and weaving into the fabric.

This Picture in that prior post on 10-22-14 was taken on 10-9-14 with ladies only having one light while their sisters before them were finishing on the other side with two lights one of which was borrowed from their setup due to a panel failing while in the last weeks of flowering. I am still waiting for a replacement panel that I was informed was being shipped last week when the replacement sent last week failed that replacement had been for the panel that failed in this first week of Oct.

Here it is Mid November and I have only had 3 of my four lights available not acceptable. I have girls waiting in veg to flower and I need that replacement to come today so I can start to flower these sweeties with enough light to make it worth the effort... These babies were clones I started near beginning of Oct

Well the light showed up today about an hour and a half ago, letting it have time to accumulate before power up just coming off that cold delivery truck running around in 36 degree weather outside.

Okay Got the light plugged in and its running great. Still would like to know if its worth taking off these lens covers for I want to get the best performance I can out of them. I am now due for added heat so time to adjust speed step controller for when ductstat turns it on it will have to keep up with additional heat being created by running all four instead of two lights...Now I will have perpetual harvest in that the left and right flowering pads of 4x4 footprint are basically 4 weeks apart so one finishes as another gets midway through...

Anywise hope to have some pics soon of new scrog setup of left side of flower room.

Tested some circuits to understand what's tied to what in this structure. I've been able to determine where and how everything is wired. Looks like I will need ultimately to drop another 15 or 20 amp circuit to the room. Then I can split it by veg amp (15) and flower amp (20) and identify them and tie them from the switch panel into the generator backup panel.

I'll need to know what the Area 51 RW-150 draws amp wise for I know the Onyx bloom leds each use 3 amps, so that ties up 12 using 4 led panels, meaning I am adding two more panels which are Area 51 RW-150 which means I need to get busy and bring in that 20 amp circuit unless I get an extension cord and ties those new ones into the new rooms circuit.

About 1.5a if you're on 110.

0.65a if you're on 240.

If you are pushing the limits of the amperage you can check with one of these to be certain. I would not exceed 12A on a 15A circuit since they are running for long hours. The meter can also help identify if you have a problem unit if it is drawing very little power.

I would recommend checking all the AC connections and wiring for warm spots. Sometimes 120V timers can have a high resistance and get very warm. Sometimes power strips have that problem because they are mass manufactured and not thoroughly tested, bad connections can slip through.

SupraSPL,

LOL I have one of those that is how I know exactly what these onyx blooms are drawing amp wise and watt wise as well.

The real test for me know is I want to bring in a 20 amp 220 volt line from the switch panel to this room to at least two different receptacles in this 10x10.5 room and wire all my LEDs in the flower room which should total near 15 amps. Twelve of the amps come from 4 x 3amp Onyx blooms and three amps from 2 x 1.5 amps for the RW-150's once I get the two Area 51 RW-150s installed as well that should completed the amps needed for the flower portion of the room including some circular fans and the heat duct stat with amperage to spare. But these amperage usages are based off 110 volt so if I do manage to get in a 220 volt at 15 amps and all my lights work on it. I maybe able to add the additional 10x5 for flower from the adjacent room that is a 10x10 without having to run another line drop and circuit to that room. I plan on the reservoir air stone pump, led lights and florescent cloning lights in the veg room can all run off that 15 amp circuit already in room and the mini split will have its own power line from the switch box so I will probably running at least two if not three sets of new lines for the third one could be for expansion into the other 10x10 right next to the current room being opened up the road.
