Another HVAC newb<<<question!

1,000 watt setup currently, completely sealed 10x10 room, with intake port and exhaust port. Exhausts through roof, intakes from another room in the house that is unused and has the heater vents plugged. Well i have 6 inch in and 6 inch exhaust , 435 cfm fan, and i still cannot get my temp under 82 degrees. SO, i need a portable ac unit.

Maybe a recommendation for a cheap unit? On a budget currently, just did some more recent fancy upgrades that burnt a hole in the wallet.

The main question is, most of these portable AC units i am seeing, have two tubes/ports coming out of them. Honestly, i really do not know how AC works. What are these ports for. Is there such an A/C unit that i can just put in my sealed room, fire it up, and let the cooling begin? I just dont want to go out and buy one, if its not going to work. Through the research i have done, most commonly said is that 6,000 BTU per 1000w. Need that verified aswell.

Thanks guys!

Will something a long the lines of http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/wsh/app/4799281624.html work? I just need it to get me down to 72-74 degrees. The problem is right now, its winter!!! And this room is in my basement, and im STILL fighting heat issues. So come summer, ill have to upgrade to a big boy im sure, though i will have another harvest under my belt by then and will be able to afford it.

If you notice from the middle picture of the ac unit from menards, this (and all) portable A/Cs will have exhaust to vent the hot humid air. It has to go somewhere.

:bigjoint:Can u pull from a window or the room your in taking from open the window so it gets cold in the "lung" room and can cool your op. Finish the run and invest next run

I stall a mini split don't waste your time on a portable a unit there not that great or do as kush says open windows or pull air from outside. Also a 10x10x9 ft high rim is roughly 900sqft if you could run a bigger fan on exhaust to move more air it will also help. But your at the Co plete air removal every 4 minutes but the more air the better. Is you 1000 watt air cooled or what

Why not divide the room or split it I feel like 10x10 with only 1k would be a waste imo even if u split the room with panda poly

I've had a single hose portable not good when running co2 because it runs off the rooms air. Switched to a double hose decent for co2 but portable ac wasn't cooling my lights so I switched to a window ac cut a hole in wall and Boxed the back up and exhausted it out works perfect can run any temp. Problem is electricity for window ac is ridiculous. If u in it for the long run invest in mini split that's my next purchase it will save u ton of money on electricity

SJ- you say you are a sealed room. Are you running CO2? If so, 82* is a great temp for running CO2. For now, I would run it like it is, with CO2 from a tank. Burners add to much more heat. Save up for a mini split and a larger fan and filter setup. I am running an IdealAir mini split, 15 seer that heats and cools. I use to use my fans to control temps and now with the mini split I use a lot less electricity. I wouldn't use a window unit or portable if smell is a concern. My room is sealed with my mini split controlling low temps for winter (heater set @ 65*) and CO2 on a controller to maintain 1200ppm. My exhaust turns on for 15 mins. once half way through lights on (to control smell) and 4 x 15 mins. during lights out. I also had to add a dehumidifer .

IdealAir DIY mini split heat pump 12,000btu. It's a 110 unit that can be installed in a few hours by yourself. I have not seen mine draw more than 8.5 amps. I use to use my fans on a thermostat switch to control temps and my electricity bill was a lot higher.

Yea it is air cooled. It has a 6" 435 cfm fan on it. It is a 10x10, however its got a temporary frame up and is divided with pol,y which is the veg room. That stays around 75 when only running fluorescent lights. Right now we have too many girls and we had to run the 1000w with the MH. Just this round i believe.

There are no windows in this room, just intake and exhaust ports. Its a hidden room. We built it not thinking ahead for shit like this. :)

I am not running CO2 currently

so i plugged the vents to the room that its drawing air from, and i got it down to 78 for vegging. Will this be ok or put stress on the plants? Because for the summer time, i have an idea. WHAT IF, i directed an AC duct from my central air unit, to the intake fan? Would that be sufficient ? Its totally possible, this room has 2, and it doesnt need 2.

That will vacuum all your a/c right through your garden, out the exhaust. You can do a passive intake from the central a/c, which will still vacuum your a/c out, but not as quickly.
