Reagan was trying to run in the 60's. He was very much a Goldwater Republican back then. As an actor, he learned his lines well enough to be "not Carter".
MLK died in April of 1968
The republican national convention was held in AUGUST of 1968

If you actually go to the link that Travis set forth as evidence of what MLK was saying about Reagan, you will notice that Reagan is never mentioned in that speech, not even once.

Reagan was running during the 64 convention. There are other sites that attribute that King quote too, but its going to be Salon and Kos types.

He gave quite a rousing speech for Barry.
I've had it playing in the background since I posted it. The first time I've heard the entire speech and it's pretty uncanny how it relates to today.

"We've sold our gold to 52 countries, but have given aid to all 52 of those countries, we bought 1000 TVs for a country without electricity".

"Once a government agency is created it never goes away, it's the closest thing to eternal life we have"

Reagan was such a war hawk. He was instrumental in ending the Cold War and the only time he ever sent troops into conflict was Grenada.

He didn't Escalate anything when the Marine Barracks in Lebanon was attacked either. Today that would be blasphemy and giving in to "terrorists."

He may have done some underhanded dealings through military channels to give illegal aid to what he referred to as "freedom fighters", so there's always that to call into question.

I liked his comment on appeasement of liberals in that speech.

"There is only one way to guarantee peace, surrender".

Exactly, and that it was southern Democrats doing the majority of the legislative blocking to keep segregation, but hey...
it was actually southerners from both parties you fucking sock puppet stooge.

The original House version:

  • Southern Democrats: 7–87 (7–93%)
  • Southern Republicans: 0–10 (0–100%)
  • Northern Democrats: 145–9 (94–6%)
  • Northern Republicans: 138–24 (85–15%)
The Senate version:

  • Southern Democrats: 1–20 (5–95%)
  • Southern Republicans: 0–1 (0–100%)
  • Northern Democrats: 45–1 (98–2%)
  • Northern Republicans: 27–5 (84–16%)

its amazing how much the republican party has changed over the past 40-50 years, the party looks almost nothing like it used to, and yet you have millions of senior citizens who vote republican and they have no clue the party they vote for wants to pull the rug of safety nets out from under neath them,
take for instance this republican poster from years ago, Look HOW much they have changedunion.jpg

I wonder how many brown people got "collateral damaged" by the Peace Prize winning President on MLK day?
