Reagan was trying to run in the 60's. He was very much a Goldwater Republican back then. As an actor, he learned his lines well enough to be "not Carter".MLK died in 1968, how was he commenting on Reagan's presidency?

Reagan was running during the 64 convention. There are other sites that attribute that King quote too, but its going to be Salon and Kos types.MLK died in April of 1968
The republican national convention was held in AUGUST of 1968
If you actually go to the link that Travis set forth as evidence of what MLK was saying about Reagan, you will notice that Reagan is never mentioned in that speech, not even once.
He was one of many trying for the pub nomination in 64 too. He was trying to get in politics as far back as the 50's.Reagan ran for Governor of California, which he won in 1967
Reagan NEVER ran for presidential nomination in 1964.Reagan was running during the 64 convention.
Yep, you are right. I was remembering "The Speech" they talked about he gave at the 64 RNC and thought he was running. He was just a speaker.Reagan NEVER ran for presidential nomination in 1964.
I've had it playing in the background since I posted it. The first time I've heard the entire speech and it's pretty uncanny how it relates to today. He gave quite a rousing speech for Barry.
Reagan was such a war hawk. He was instrumental in ending the Cold War and the only time he ever sent troops into conflict was Grenada.I've had it playing in the background since I posted it. The first time I've heard the entire speech and it's pretty uncanny how it relates to today.
"We've sold our gold to 52 countries, but have given aid to all 52 of those countries, we bought 1000 TVs for a country without electricity".
"Once a government agency is created it never goes away, it's the closest thing to eternal life we have"
I liked his comment on appeasement of liberals in that speech.Reagan was such a war hawk. He was instrumental in ending the Cold War and the only time he ever sent troops into conflict was Grenada.
He didn't Escalate anything when the Marine Barracks in Lebanon was attacked either. Today that would be blasphemy and giving in to "terrorists."
He may have done some underhanded dealings through military channels to give illegal aid to what he referred to as "freedom fighters", so there's always that to call into question.
ginwilly really is that dumb. read his posts about republicans/democrats over time on pocketfives.at a different time. You can't be this stupid...and your not , so stop
it was actually southerners from both parties you fucking sock puppet stooge.Exactly, and that it was southern Democrats doing the majority of the legislative blocking to keep segregation, but hey...
