Grow tents, are they worth the money?

Im thinking about investing in a couple homebox grow tents, The only thing Im worried about is that every time I open them, which will be a lot, its gonna STANK and that would be bad news.

Would I be better off with some black/white poly? and poly airlock?

Waste of money IMO you can make your own with velcro zips and black and white sheeting, I have!:joint:

Visit BGHydro.com and check out the DarkRoom series. I have purchase and am completing a grow using one. Assembly/Breakdown is quick, and easy. System is highly portable, durable, excellent reflective material. Light-tight, and right! They are currently selling a kit for around $500 and change. This appears to include filter, fan, tent, light hangers, etc. and can be found here: Hydroponic Grow Rooms | Indoor Growing Chambers

BTW, the grow in my sig is a DR150, but the link above is several different sizes. Hope this helps you!

Yeah I know of that site, I would be putting my 1000w hps lights in with air cooled hoods.

Im mostly worried about the smell. Does it smell up your place when you open them? I am in a rental house so I dont want it stanking up the whole house every time I water them.

The smell gets stronger as flowering progresses. A filter is a good purchase to make. If you're purchasing a smaller tent, make sure your lighting is air-cooled because these tents can get warm. I am running a 4.5x4.5x7 space and use an air cooled light, and an AC. The outside temps are around 90+ this time of year so that also contributes to the heat. For a 1000W I would purchase a larger tent.

I HIGHLY recommend these though. The smell is only apparent when it is open, and does not leak out of the room that it's in (unless the tent, and bedroom doors are open for quite some time.)

Hope that helps :)

I was really leaning towards making something myself, but if they can manage smell when they are FULL of SOG flowering in soil I may invest the extra cash just because I can reuse it, and it would be less obvious then a bunch of poly.

I found an excellent 36"20"62" Grow Tent on Ebay for $109.00 TOTAL COST. Just search on there. It is discreet , your ID kept private, and its excellent for only $107-$120 since you would probably spend at least half that and it wouldn't be half as good.

Consider it as an investment that will repay you. :)
however, if you're really hands-on, then just go ahead and begin your project !

Well I think I might just make the investment in a few good growtents then

Im looking at the homebox XL, 2 or 3 of those with 1000w light each, they are 4.6x4.6 feet, it should fill up nicely and be easy to move.

Anyone use a Homebox before? any reviews? Also those of you that are using tents which brands do you prefer? 250 per XL homebox is definitly within my budget.

Thanks

I think you should go for the homebox. I would have if they had the wicked dimensions that fit half my closet perfectly. also hear good things about dark room. only tent i know that has had issues is the hydro hut, which they recalled i believe due their inner PVC being fatal to the plants.

Homebox is the next best thing in price and value next to the no-name generic i got from e bay. u should check out ebay also... :joint:

Yeah I noticed the generic ones being sold on ebay, I like the dementions because they could get through doorways fully built and fit in closets, how is the quality? Have you had any problems with these?

I will be getting homebox most likely for flowering but a tent for the closet would be perfect for my mothers

I use a homebox xxl, zero light leaks, No PVC, works great, havent had any problems. The secret jardin darkrooms are notorious for holes all around the seams and pin holes in the walls.

Also Iv seen some of the budboxes, hydrohuts, etc, Im not sure which one was recalled for using PVC that was toxic to plants, but all of them had extremely weak poles, I saw a pic of one on here and the poles were so bent from the gear hanging that they were like 6 inches from where they should be.

So far my homebox hasnt had this problem at all, I got 2 fans, 2 1000s lights with aircooled hoods, 2 carbon filters, and a shitload of ocsilating fans and shit and I could probly hang another 60lbs easy.

Stay away from Secret Jardin. I did some reviews on 2 of them and they have more bad than good. If you insist on getting one let me know and I'll give you a decent review of it.

Heres a few pics of my homebox, Im starting my next crop next week so its currently empty.

No light leaks, it works amazingly. I average 3.5-4 lbs with C02.

The last one I turned on my fan, just so anyone whos gonna say I should tie up that hanging ducting can see that my big fan takes care of that problem for me. :peace:
