Noted.

Our job is to help people understand, at least I make it part of mine.

When I came back a few weeks ago I was reading a thread, Ginwilly eluded that you had PTSD and that you 'we're having an episode.' @ginwilly that really disappoints me that as a healthcare provider you would think or even imply that mental health is an insult. I thought you were above throwing people's health problems in their face. You know better dude, you should be advocating for the patient. If you want to use insult leave your job at work and make fun of him for his silly anarchist ideals. ;)

I have rather severe PTSD myself, just thought I would inform you Gin.
ginwilly is no medical professional, he just hangs around doctors to get pills.

I bet you are misremembering. The only thing I did (which is still shitty, admittedly) was say it must be mental if it's 100% rating because I know a guy that lost both legs and got a 50% rating. Still shitty, but PTSD was never mentioned, I'm almost positive about that.
You might not have written it specifically but you eluded to it, mental instability due to wartime service.

Either way I was bummed and that can't be changed. You changed your ways though. ;)

It is unfortunate he only received 50%, he should have been given an automatic 60% for the first leg, I think the second one would make him 100% legally According to VHA regulations and policy. He should also be receiving a few additional stipends yearly, clothing, wheelchair, and he is eligible for a grant of up to $25,000 to alter his home to suit his legless needs.

I have a few problems, the PTSD only accounts for a small 40% rating out of my total. Add up my knees, shoulders, lower back, right wrist, left ankle, that is a much higher number. Everything is added together Semi-cumulatively, actually it usually gets rounded down quite aggressively and a formula is also used to combine them. It is a bit wonky unless you sit down and use the matrix, add up all disabilities according to their official tables they use.

You may have heard of him. Dana Bowman? He was a Golden Knight and he and his partner were doing a stunt where they crossed mid air really close. This time though, his partner stuck an arm out to balance and it clipped Dana's legs, his partner hit the ground and was dead on impact, Dana landed without his shoot but lived. They found him with his partners arm stuck to him but his legs gone.

He was also a helicopter and small plane pilot. He rehabbed, got new legs and within six months was back jumping and flying. Very inspirational. He worked for Hangar as a spokesman. One of the greatest motivational speakers I've ever heard.

He turned down any assistance because he never saw himself as disabled.

that doesn't change the fact that you repeatedly called abandon "100% mentally deficient" over and over and over again, shitball.

Good for him! I never saw the reason to jump out of a perfectly good plane though.

He should have taken his rating, it was a business agreement between himself and the US government when he got in. Should he receive INJURY he would be compensated. Pretty silly of him not to invest that or give it to charity or someone who could have used it instead of letting Sam keep it in his treasury and not keep his end of the bargain.

Nothing wrong with taking what you are owed, ask any SF cool guy who has left the service. Most of those dudes walk around with 60+% ratings and have corporate jobs in addition to their ratings, they earned it.

That's cute coming from a guy who went to the middle east in 91. There was an actual war going on when I went. To call yourself a veteran is an insult to guys who actually fought.
I was in Iraq from June 2006 till June 2008. As a civilian. In 1991 I was in California.

I was in the army during the Viet Nam conflict.

Dry your tears and get over it. Living on welfare is no way to live.

To take the rating he would have had to take the discharge and he wanted to prove a no-legged guy could still do the job. I applaud him. They gave him 6 months to prove it, and he did. I thought he was treated very fairly. He said he had to petition the army to get reinstated, they compromised on the 6 month period.

I bet the accident is on youtube, I'll see if I can find it, I've seen it, pretty amazing he survived.

Edit: Oh wow, I found a better video of the one I saw.

Slight brag, he's still my facebook friend and keeps in touch when he comes to the state wherever I'm working at the time.

Oh, I see the situation a little more clearly now. Definitely more power to him, if I was legless I would call it a day I think. Tougher dude then I am that's for sure, and I thought I had bad knees!

I posted the video of his crash above. It's fascinating, no closeups so no graphic images.

Wow, brutal as hell.

The worst I have seen while pulling medical coverage during jumps was a bilateral tib/fib with some ankle stuff involved. That dude was screaming something terrible!

I can imagine myself being bored at the ambulance like usual, picking my nose watching them come down. To treat a patient with bilateral amputations would be most unexpected at a jump site, I am amazed he survived. He was lucky and I expect his medical care also had something to do with his living.

Ugh, that sucks.

Working for Hangar doesn't hurt either. He gets the newest C-legs and is literally a walking advertisement.

Watching him walk stairs step over step knowing he has fake legs is truly amazing. He came into the clinic one day because I had a lady that was scared to wear her leg anywhere outside of the parallel bars. She told him she was afraid if she fell she could never get up again. He jumped in the floor then jumped back up and said what's the problem? She said "but you've got two good legs" her look was priceless when he pulled his pant legs up.

She was doing laps around the pool that day.

I disagree. It is quite liberating that I'm not subject to wage labor. You know that though since every cent you have ever received comes from the government while your military "work" produces nothing useful.
You have no idea what I do for a living. Don't let that stop you from ranting though.

Your story keeps changing. When I said something about you going to Vietnam, you corrected me by pointing out that you served during desert storm. Now this story.

I think you live in your mom's basement. I certainly don't believe you have ever grown cannabis.

says the guy who sat at home collecting a disability check, buying boats and $150 sunglasses with it.

The state actually forced my to file for disability in order to keep my medical benefits. I hadn't worked in over a year and a half. I had no desire to claim anything. I had my own income at the time.

And you completely missed my point. You made it personal simply as an attempt to insult me. It didn't work.

You must be confusing me with somebody else. I never said I served during desert storm. I was in the Army from '71 to 74. I worked as a civilian in Iraq from 06 to 08.

You remind me of my older brother. He took the same route you are taking. Chased whores all over southeast Asia and south America on a disability income. It left him angry and bitter. He is buried in a pauper's grave in Manila.
