CXA3590 Build Plan

Expensive on Amazon. $6.68.

I'm paying $2.68

I figure I can make cones out of pebbled Aluminum sheet, since we can't buy the suckers. Weird. It comes in at the under $2.00 price point.

I'll have to cut them on a band saw but the pattern is simple. I can get 2 cones per square foot. I made a patten.

http://www.onlinemetals.com/merchant.cfm?pid=10567&step=4&showunits=inches&id=859&top_cat=60
36 inches x 48 inches - $46.44 = 12 sq ft = 24 cones = $1.94

Here is a picture of the pattern I made for the cones.

I'm sure you know this.....but just in case, you can get LEDIL compatible holders that slip onto the COB holders.....just took delivery. Am based in Europe and Arrow USA sent them to me with free shipping!! If you're in Europe and want either the Chip-Lok COB Holder or the Reflector attachment (or both!) Arrow USA are amazingly cheap.

When I make them, they will be outside the COB square, at 50mm at the bottom.
I'll cut a pair of tabs at 180 degrees around the bottom circle and bend those to be parallel with the heat sink. I will bend those inwards and pick up the screws for the holder.

Whoever said, TRC is not the thing, was correct. They take the order with this giant lead time.
I got to checking other sources because maybe stocking levels have improved. YES. TRC was cancelled.

I get the same deal from Sager and they have already shipped from a USA location.

So, COBs, Holders and Drivers are all in the mail. I got the last bit of 2" wide aluminum I need for the end caps. (my test piece was only 1.5 inches, but all I could get locally)

Come together, is next.

Well that was fast. If anyone wonders about Kingbrite and slow boat shipping.....don't.

The COBs shipped on the 31st and I see they have been at my PO box since Weds April 1.
(super busy at work this week)

ONE day shipment (including 1/2 day for time change.)

Dayum! Impressive.

A note to any shippers: quick and reliable shipping is a HUGE plus, and often justifies slightly higher prices. People will love you for getting their stuff to them pronto. That's where your best reviews will happen, which will help get new customers sometimes.

If you have to ask, you don't need to know. :)
lol.

Here's a cocked up ring. I knocked it cock-eye in the hole at the last molten instant with the brazing wire....the cock.

The black stuff is a non-asbestos, carbon fiber, fire cloth. I use that to insulate the work piece from the vice to hold the heat. <sigh> Proof of concept. Not easy to get the temperature high enough with propane.
