im supposed to disrespect a man in his own home and walk out when i dont agree with his culture......really...thats how you act in life...

You bet your ass. I wouldn't comment, I'd just leave.....I'd be too sick, if this happened within our borders, to do anything but. 1 step forward, 20 steps back.........

i keep close company with islamic palastinians....and they have taught me alot about the islamic religion and arabic culture over the years and i do follow some islamic beliefs...but just like any other religion or belief system you have the nut jobs....but because of americas campaign against anything other than christianity we only see the evil of islam over here and not the good...what isnt talked about are the terror and attrocities carried out in the name of cristianity and catholocism.....9/11 has nothing on the crusades...

i'm sorry why should anybody inflict themselves to do something that makes them feel uncomfortable....?
maybe because reality is filled with these uncomfortable moments and ignoring them doesn't make them go away. poverty and pain may be man's natural state, but degradation is something we inflict upon each other and we must witness it if we are to know what we are to fight against.

thats when i hit ffwd...............thats dvr talk for fast forward:hump:.......its the views toward women that stops me from taking my shahadah.....i just dont see how any culture can look at women as second class citizens...i mean seriously..they are our mothers and the givers of life...if there is anything on this earth closer to a god like life giving creature....i say there is not.....
Its the culture man, not the religion, read the actual quran and see what it says, not what people say.:joint:

That is what we do, we real Americans. We don't stand for Bull Shit positions, i.e. "no women allowed", in the name of anything, period.....
All Americans are "real" Americans no matter how delusional. Freedom and equality, so that means we listen to others "bullshit" positions. America was built on a patriarch model. Women stayed home and cooked, cleaned, hell they were not allowed to participate in government for years. But we listened to their "bullshit" positions as you call them and as a result women gained the same rights as men. I'm not defending either side here but condemning the whole of Islam simply perpetuates the culture of fear and hate that is already in place. How about we view people as such rather than labeling and grouping them? Or is that a radical "bullshit" idea? Now all of Islam is not this radical in fact the US is one of the only places in the world where Islam is not practiced under radical idealism, I believe that this is due to an attitude of tolerance that is rapidly diminishing. "No women allowed", "No Islam allowed", "No Jews allowed", "No blacks allowed". Intolerance is the same no matter how you label it.:peace:

Freedom and equality, so that means we listen to others "bullshit" positions.

We CAN listen..(there is no freedom to be heard)..and we can vehemently disagree, if we choose to listen. ESPECIALLY when it is "bull shit", it is our obligation, our duty, to disagree, vehemently. At least we don't punish those that disrespect us, i.e. like looking us in the eyes, physically.

Not quite. Let me make this point in a round about way, and mildly disrespect you at the same time. Just because you have a little prick, and it has a little hair on it, you sir, are no Man. You need to take stands, at times, to qualify for title of Man, and you are incapable, it seems, of standing firmly for anything.

I hope you don't leave, because there are few people who have a clue of what they're talking about, especially with respect to living among Muslims. You've been "up close and personal", and decided it's not for you. I respect that. And, with specific regard to the issue of how women are treated, I completely agree (being raised Boricua, but appearing to be many ethnicities).
maybe because reality is filled with these uncomfortable moments and ignoring them doesn't make them go away. poverty and pain may be man's natural state, but degradation is something we inflict upon each other and we must witness it if we are to know what we are to fight against.
And for myself? It is because I am brought to ask, What makes ME so special that I should be spared? I am not an innocent or a child, I am merely fortunate. I want to be aware, even if it hurts, or makes me uncomfortable.

One of the worst things I ever forced myself to watch was a piece of video, about ten years ago, on a channel that no longer exists, freespeechtv, on the Intafada. The specific bit that was so difficult was being filmed from very far away, so no sound. Two young Pallies, MAYBE 15yo, throwing rocks at an Israeli tank. The soldiers got out, got to the boys (stopped them at gunpoint), and then proceeded to follow orders. What were their orders? Break the arms. They tried using their rifles, pounding and pounding as the boys appeared to be screaming and trying to get away. They failed, they couldn't break their arms with their rifles. So, while one soldier held one boy (why the other didn't run away, I can't say), the other found a nice, big rock. Think it took one blow? Think again. Think one break of the arm was enough? Think again. They broke upper arm of the right arm, then the lower arm. Then they smashed his elbow. Then they started on his other arm. Then, they got the other boy, did the same thing (this whole process took QUITE a while), failing with the rifle then succeeding with the rocks. THEN, they marched them to their vehicle, where they proceeded to smash their thighs, then their knees, then their lower legs. First trying with the rifles, and failing, then moving on to rocks.

Do you know why they waited to break their legs? So they wouldn't have to carry them to the vehicle. Then, the rock-throwing boys were "arrested".

I cried during the whole thing. My youngest son came inside, Mom, why are you crying? Get out of here, you can't see this, but I have to (he was too young, I will protect my children if I can, I'll protect any child if I can). I had to make myself watch, because, well... because, ignorance is bliss. What right have I to bliss when others suffer like this, and worse?

Seamaiden I also saw that video, and it still leaves me speechless. Its things like that make me so angry when I see people labeling one side as "the problem" because it simply doesnt work like that. Major Warcrimes are commited by both sides.

This is where some may disagree though. When the Israeli side comitts an act like that you dont hear about it. Al-jazeera and sometimes Canadian news agencies will report it, but thats about it. When it is a Palestenian attack on Isreal, wou will hear about it for weeks.
