To Biz... i cant really help you on this, i know some other guys have made some tests and have much much more experience regarding reflectors...

So I may be unemployed....but I won't stop scheming :) Necessity is the mother of all invention and it looks like between Necessity and MacGyver I have been a good son! My wife isn't too happy about losing a clothes horse, but I think it's been put to much better use :o

A combination of cable ties, clothes horse and some heavy duty diamond reflective foil have turned this from my dream of "state of the art" to "state of the nation" ;)

So far 4 of the Arctic Cooler/CXA 3070s running at 1400mA are up and in the small space I am getting a fairly good 60cm square (in the middle) of 1200 umol/m2/sec as measured by a PAR meter at canopy height of 50cm from COBs. Willing to accept the PAR meter isn't state of the art and might be wrong, but I think it's pretty f*cking wonderful to have the zucchini growing so well (only 8 days since seeds went into the earth and they're 12cm tall with 3 sets of leaves!!!!) Using 2 x 5000k and 2 x 3000k.....about to add another 2 tonight (1 of each) as there are a bunch of tomato seedlings that are crying out for this "light-love-fest".

how do i wire up a two wire 12v adapter that plugs into the wall to an alpine11 fans 4 pin/4wire end? i tried to sort them on my own like a normal two wire cpu fan as usual but think i fried one and dont want to fry any more at $10 apiece and shipping time : (
 
You could use something like this but it is $1.25/connector.

If you want to make your own connection, you use the black and red wire from the Alpine and leave the yellow and blue unused. Its circuitry will fry if you put 12V into the yellow wire I believe. The fan motor is probably still OK, but not sure if there is a way to bypass the PWM circuitry and bring it back to life.
 
skinned the black and red from a11 and connected it to adapters ends both ways and nothing happend. really frustrating..never imagined my brickwall in all this would be a simple cpu fan that most everyone seems to be running

Don't fret. I lost 2 in the process as well.. Those fans don't have reverse polarity protection so if you wire them backwards they fry quick. Just make sure you have a good power supply. For some reason an old Bose 12v adapter I tried killed 2 fans. Make sure you know which lead is positive.

ok.....how did you get them wired correctly?...im not a cpu guy...picture or explanation will get me set though. many people are running them but i cant get a real answer to how their running them.

On the 12v adapter I'm using for a few fans the positive side has writing going down the insulation, while the negative has long white dashes on the insulation. Are there any kind of markings like that? And does the adapter force polarity? (Does it have a larger prong and a smaller prong that go into the wall) If the adapter forces polarity then you may be able to follow the prong all the way to the end of the wires. Bigger prong is neutral while the smaller prong is live.

Well I'm guessing the red and black wires are the only ones to use on the a11....so does the neutral go to the red wire or black wire?...I knew nothing about leds and have garnered a wealth of knowledge but there is surprisingly no info on wiring the alpine fan especially considering one wrong move fries the unit and wastes $10+ dollars and almost a week of time (shipping)

Ah yes, on the alpine RED is positive and BLACK is negative ;-)


POSITIVE goes to the live(hot) NEGATIVE goes to the neutral.

At 30cm from COBs am reading 1300umol/s/m2.....Which is nice :)

If Eddie is still confused about which wire is which I have a document somewhere on that topic. Was going to strip off the connector, then thought "sod it" and just bought the right kit. Glad I did.

Looks great, i want to grow most of my vegetables at home too. How do you measure umol/s/m2? Do you read the lux and translate them to umol/s/m2? What formula you used for those CXA?

Looks like the price on the Arctic 64 Plus is up to $19. Some other alternatives

Alpine 11 $10 (Vero29/CXB3590 fits, especially with kapton method)
Rosewill RCX-Z1 $20 (flat surface, copper pad, fan dimmer) $20
