Long time lurcher first time poster. First off much respect to all you guy who post info on LEDs and other light sources. You guys contribute to me staying medicated greatly thanks. Now I've seen in a few people mention (GreenGenes, Captain Morgan) that a few companies are working on cob panels. Just wanted to know roughly when they are coming out and any tidbits on design.

Best regards.

Come June, you should begin seeing COB panels emerge. I know that Area 51 is launching a new COB series of fixtures, same for Rapid, and Optic is currently selling COB fixtures.

Agreed. I'm going to be upgrading my garden soon and am seriously considering Optic.
@Eraserhead just may have some new models to sell here before the end of May. Just saying; it's a possibility.

I have a feeling Area 51 is going to quickly take back the diamond-encrusted crown after the launch of the new model series!

You may want to hold back and wait for these new fixtures!

Yes, I know what A51 has coming, but quite honestly, I'm not sure that I'm interested. I know they'll have the Vero 29 V2.0, but their "Lego" design, although novel, seems frought with peril. Having a bunch of modules connected like that could create multiple "weak links" in terms of physical stability and technical connectivity. Maybe I'll feel differently once I see the actual unit.

Just who might they be?

Tis a secret :P ;)

ETA: Honestly though, I think it was rahz that was looking into the legality of selling panels. As am I, and I wouldn't be surprised of there were a few lurkers on the forum doing the same.

SDS, Rhaz, and supra have done custom work. I've done a few for local yocals.

I wouldn't be surprised if I'm missing a few.

I'll be selling lamps sometime this year, though not on a large scale basis. I'd like to stock around 12 each of the two designs I have. I'm getting the enclosure parts cut and bent, will have to drill the holes myself. I've already purchased a 1 hp floor standing drill. My designs will be competitive in cost with current quality choices, though will be ran softer and likely be all aluminum construction. I'm shooting for between 35-40 watts per foot output so the suggested intensity will be pretty good.

I don't have the means to start with anything but a home based business, and am scared to death of Kickstarter obligations. My lamps will have no certification unless/until the business takes off. There doesn't seem to be any laws requiring certifications, but this precludes including middle merchants like grow shops from carrying my product and there's the outside chance of a lawsuit and not having an electrical certification could make that problematic. It's a simple design and all the components will be over rated so I don't see that being a game breaker. I'll have a website and advertise on a few forums and hope for enough business to keep me busy.
