Hi, thanks for checking out my post. I'm looking at setting up my first grow. I'm a licensed patient in Michigan and I am going to grow in a tent in an unused 4x7 closet in the basement. I was looking for feedback about the setup I'm going to use.

Seeds: Pineapple Chunk Fem
Grow Tent: Secret Jardin Lodge L120
Hydro System: Hydro West Aquabuckets
Seed Starter: Hydrofarm CK64050
Flowering Light: Apollo Horticulture GLK600CT24E
Veg Light: Apollo Horticulture GLK600CT24E

Seedling Light: Hydrofarm FLT52 24-Inch 24-Watt T5
Fan & Filter: VenTech IF6CF620 6" Inline Duct Fan
Temp/Humidity/CO2 controller: Titan Controls Saturn 5 702851
CO2 Regulator: Titan Controls 702710 Regulator
CO2 Tank: 20lb CO2 Tank
Small Room A/C: Frigidaire FRA052XT7 5,000-BTU
Small Room Dehumidifier: Frigidaire FAD504DWD

I'm hoping that you will be able to guide me if any of the products I've listed above are pure garbage. I'm not interested in any DIY hydro systems, but I'd like to know your thoughts about the Hydro West Aquabuckets.

It took me a long time to settle on Barneys Pineapple Chunk as the strain I'm going to grow. I want something with high THC, a somewhat up or energetic high and very high yield. I read that this strain is inconsistent with regards to phenotypes, and some are quite tall. I plan to mitigate this by growing 16 seedlings and then culling them down to the four best by the time they go into the flowering chamber. I also leaned strongly toward Dinafem's Critical Plus 2.0

I'd like to set this up to cycle so that I'm getting a harvest every 7 weeks. I also am hoping that my yields will be around 8-12 ounces, once I get things dialed in. Can you let me know if this is reasonable?

Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Hey

1 the AC unit normally has a built in dehumifier so a 2nd one is not needed unless for a dry tent

2 your tent is only 5 feet high ....u lose 14 inches from the bucket highet and u lose 12/14 inches with the light /venting out so 28 inches leaves u little under 3 and u still need to leave room for the light and the top of the plant so down to about 2 feet of grow room

3 your system is called a RDWC this is a good system and will do well but the strains u are talking and what u want to pull off the plant ...this is way to strong u should use this system in a open room giving u room to space out the plants to grow up and out (once the plant is in a DWC it has access to water all the time if u keep the feed right and ph balanced the plants turn into monsters)

4 your light is good for a 4x4 footprint but can do a 5x5 ....2 plants the size u are talking

6 u forgot alot of epuipment
a) ph tester
b) PPM tester
c) auto Pher (makes it easy)
d) your feed line need to make sure chemical with some organics that can pass that filter
e) PH up PH down
f) water chiller to keep the water temp under 68

Thanks for the tips. I was planning on managing the height by doing SCROG, with an individual screen for each bucket. Thanks for mentioning the items I forgot. that's exactly why I wrote this post. Thanks again. I hope you will subscribe when I start my grow journal after I get everything set up.

I'm assuming your growing in your home. I've went into detail about this many times, but skip the CO2. Your levels indoors are already probably pretty high.

Otherwise your selected equipment is not the best, but if your on a budget it looks all on the same par. You can get any old cool white t-5 or t-8s locally for seedlings.

Your goals aren't unrealistic except for the short harvest time.

I'd probably skip the hydro for now. If later you want to try it out, experiment with one plant in a homeade dwc bucket or bin, super simple setup but there is strategy.

Pinneapple chunk and different phenos, you hit the nail on the head there. Your gonna have to experiment really. THC ratings have little to do (or at least not much what you would think) with quality bud. By all means try it, but there are major differences.

Critical 2.0 is ok, nothing special as far as medicinal value. Im pretty sure it was breed to be bud rot resistant. You'll see why if you grow it, giant buds, but very airy and not dense.

Ok, good to know. Could you recommend better lights? I'm looking for something dimmable, but I don't know what are reliable brands. Also, what strains would you recommend for a good combination of short height and yield, with a high that's not too couchlocking?

Thanks again!

I only use Gavita pro lighting now. Not cheap, but in my opinion the best.

Whats the height of your closet? you say 4x7

For strains thats so subjective I have a hard time answering. I'm a caregiver and grow for patients, and over the years all they want is to try something new. I've been trying some of Sannies stuff and have been really impressed. Try Kolossus.

Good advice you are getting here. I just finished a grow of Pineapple Chunk. Out of 16 fem plants I had 3 or 4 distinct phenos. They say that this is a stable strain and I believe that it is, to the extent that the quality and taste of the bud is all Pineapple Chunky for sure but one of the pheno differences was bloom time. I think you can pretty much forget the 55 days they say on seed sites for this strain. My short plants were the first to ripen in 10 weeks and the tall straggly versions 12 weeks, with one pheno the largest that just wanted to see how tall (6'+ and was topped 2 times) and big of a root ball it could make with many, many small buds. This baby is going to be used for extracts. Be prepared for a fair amount of trimming, lots of smaller type buds, good sized, but not your Master Kush type big lunkers. There are many more stable strains but hard to go wrong with the quality.
Also had a few plants weep an oil type sap from some branch joints, looks just like BHO, have not tried it yet.

This was my first Chunk grow and most of it is still hanging in the curing room. The test results are not back yet from the lab but I will say this is the first smoke that literally messes with my vision and I would say makes me feel uncomfortable driving or trying to read. Based on other strains I have grown, tested and smoked, I'm guessing it's going to come in 24-28% THC with a higher than average CBD%. I have been smoking for 40 years and would have to rate this as one of the best. It also has the stickiest most resinous buds I have ever worked with, even after proper drying it is difficult to roll a joint, everything wants to turn into a sticky mess, but I did get er done.
Good luck.

I found, since the A/C only runs when it gets warm, that the humidity will skyrocket at "night" when the lights are off. Still need the dehumidifier, at least in my experience.

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize that the height difference was so extreme. I will have to go with a different (shorter) strain.

Yeah, I'll be using the tent, so I need to really focus more on height in my strain selection. I'm leaning more toward Green House Great White Shark now (http://www.herbiesheadshop.com/green-house-great-white-shark-feminised-seeds-691)
