If it works for you. Doesn't for me. Lower bud sites do not need direct light, that's what those big fan leaves are for. You can do it outdoors or indoors still same result smaller buds on lower part of plant. Whether you defoliate or not. Some of my best smoke has come from popcorn buds. Imo

Once again if your happy with it by all means continue, but I will never defoliate me mj again.:bigjoint:
Thanks for your answer - at least you didn't put me down , concerning my answer

I grow buds ! Not leaves! So I defoil 2 weeks into 12/12 and then again 5 weeks into 12/12 then few days before chop I take all that isn't bud off!

A little humor to lighten the heavy atmosphere is the intent HH....Sorry if you took it personal - - It was not meant that way!!!

Most of us who attempt to spread the knowledge have escaped to a pvt land of quiet solitude (buy invite) and don't answer these push button topics anymore because many simply won't listen to people who have been doing it for longer then most of them have been alive....Sometimes I'm asked why I still do what I do here so much....Because I want to help.....It's simply sad that so many are taken in by those who may mean well,,,,but, alas...are quite wrong.....

I need to say that's not what I'm calling you....ok?

My name is Mad Prophesser and you ask me if I am unhappy. No, I don't have any friends. I am too smart for the people around me and we have nothing but contempt for each other. Any other questions I can answer?

I've done experiments and found that plants I defoliate the shit out of at 21 days into flower, definitely grow bigger buds.
No, they didn't. I will explain why. The moment you started ripping off her food supply, you stalled your plant. If you had never removed the leaves, she would not have to recover and your buds would have been bigger. Removing leaves causes stress. Stress causes the plant to stall. After the recovery period, it will take the plant some time to get back to its previous productivity. Where in there do you think you caused it to grow bigger buds? Buds do not have the surface area of a big, fat fan leaf, so how do you propose this is working? Buds are the fruit of the plant, they are not part of the production, they are the final product. Yes, they do have leaves and are a small part of the light intake, but nowhere near the scale of a healthy fan leaf.

If flowers grow on the bottom of the plant without direct light, why you do need to remove the solar panels for them to grow?

Hey everyone,

A $ worth here; as I defoliate a great deal and have done for a few years.
Though strain dependent, some like it more than others, I've found defoliation boosts budding sites and decreases vertical height.
This is not a technique to throw at your plants late on in their lives, it's something that starts early on. Nipping off leaves before they become storage facilities, for some reason, what ever goes on with the plants metabolism, furious growth is directed the next site up and the internode that has just lost it's leaf!!!

I'm charging my camera's batteries right now so I can document my defoliation techniques for you, try it on at least one cutting, sat/indy hybrids seem to favor it better than landraces it seems.
But don't start chopping leaves off of a mature plant that hasn't experienced it before, you'll throw it's metabolism right out of wack and you'll see nut sacs in about a week!!

Check back for piccies in the next few days, as I'd like to help any one who is considering defoliation. It's gained me 20 to 40% yields, honestly!! Again strain dependent.

I'll be typing a wee bit more soon it seems, look forward to your replies :)

I have only once defoliated a plant and was less than pleased with the results. I did one and not her sisters. I didn't feel the end product was what it could have been, she did not ripen as quickly IMO.

What I do notice every year is that fans begin to fade from the bottom up, I speculate that this is the mobile nutrients moving from these solar panels as they are no longer needed and are now being used for their building blocks. you will notice that during flower the plant no longer dedicates resources to new fans, just sugar leaves. The flowers swell as the leaves fade, rational thought dictates that this is those mobile nutrients moving to the flowers during the last push for maturity.

The only leaves I pull now are the ones that the plant is willing to let go of when I apply a gentle tug.

Bingo! Common sense, but people still choose to :wall: instead of paying attention to the plant. If the plant needs the leaf why would you take it? Makes no sense to harm something that is doing perfectly fine.

Also those lower fans in some cases can be saved through figuring out what it is that the plant is missing, causing it to pull nutrients stored in the lower fans. Some strains are harder to get dialed in to avoid the loss of lower fans.

All im saying is I did a 50/50 defoliate / no defoliation and the area I trimmed hard grew bigger buds and yielded more.

Oh FFS sorry guys, gonna have to borrow a camera, mines been on charge for 24 hours nearly, just took a photo, dead camera . . . . .

Bear with me, I WILL show you some results as soon as I possibly can . . . .

I agree, but like anything else too much is bad and does make a short plant. Consider a Heavy defoliate (best to feed nutrients aftrer this) once in week 4 of vegation and then in week 4 of flower - them general (light blocking) defoliation ( 1-6 leaves) thru out grow. What are your thoughts? Thanks guy's for input
