and btw, not saying you were being lazy, i understand why you did, just meant for me, that'd be the lazy way since i have plenty of yard to do a garden in..

Understandable, one thing about those pots though I have to check everyday since we have been having crazy weather went from perfect to crazy storms to hot and humid to dry to just humid and rain. Keep eye on progress I got to say though thing that is bothering me the most about maybe one of my plants is the leaf curling inward at the sides maybe from heat and all the rain?

yeah, could be from the heat from the sounds of it.. just try to make sure you water them good, i'd do twice a day, once as the sun comes up and once again right at dusk and see how they respond...
i have one or two pepper plants that don't look great.. they're growing and all, just don't look all that happy. it's raining out now, hopefully that helps as it's been super hot and humid here the past week..

Just dont want to over water em I mean we have had lots of rain but we also had those days when its been in 96 or 97 humidity made it like 100+
but yeah fed em water really good like day ago with fish emulsion, humic acid, seaweed not to mention it's in my supersoil plus its been raining off and on all day

oh shit, yeah, you should be straight then.. you can pretty easily tell when they're thirsty imo, they just look sad and depressed, and a lil drooping going on...

View attachment 3440354 I did a bunch of seeds last year. This year I hit up the nursery. Early girl type. They aren't getting to big though. I think I'll throw some beefsteak out tomorrow. It's funny I spend a lot of time at nurseries now a days.

Very nice. I started some early girls and early timers (I think that's what the other strain is called, anyway). I went with those two seeing as how I'm in Alaska, I needed a quick finishing variety of tomatoes. Those look super far along though, what kinda climate are you in?

I just transplanted a few tomato plants into two 5 gallon buckets and one 5 gallon smart pot and moved them outside a week ago as well as one bell pepper plant in another 5 gallon bucket. I'm really hoping they bear some fruit, but I've been told alaska isn't a very good climate for tomatoes...we'll see.

I'm interested in seeing the differences in yield between in ground and potted tomatoes too, they both have their advantages and disadvantages like anything else. Subbed!

yeah but on that Mr Stripey the one that looks lollipoped lot of new growth on it had to take old big leaves off they were looking bad. Yeah I agree racer on the day I watered them the soil was completely dry on top like crust watered em they popped up deep lush green, this humidity and heat something else, need to get more distilled water

Actually I planted those and my pepperoncini on April 28. So I did get an early start. I did have some frosrty nights but the tomato plants didn't budge. I tilled and upturned the soil good this season. Added compost to the dirt as well. Don't really know how to describe my climate lately. Last week we had a day of 100 deg weather then 2 days after it rained. And at night its been cold.

I chose early girl cuz the guy at the nursery told me it does well in our climate. Cali zone 3. Best garden I've had yet. Only my 3rd season so I'm still getting used to it

who do you order your seeds from ?
i think i was using baker creek heirloom, plus i got some jersey tomato seeds online straight from rutger's universities site..

I bought most of my pepper and tomato seeds this year from Baker Creek. Last year I had a bunch of starts that I started from seed that I had bought on ebay, which were supposed to be heirloom seeds, but you could tell the stuff had all cross pollinated... I had some pepperoncini that were more like a habanero etc, the tomatoes were similar. I still got some nice tomatoes but I had a lot more hot peppers than I wanted.

Sun gold cherryis just a beast. Second time I have grown this one. Right now about 10' tall and 10' square. Supported using a reg tomato cage which it pulled right out of the ground so I trained it up this metal pole that used to be a diy swing set. Not quite sure how I will get the toms down but sure does look nice. And have taken over 15 1' tall clones from it. Easy couple hundred toms on her.

that tomato set the record in 2012 with a 100 ft + VINE!!! i love sungolds and am trying to f5 them for stability as they are a hybrid

where does everyone get their starts, or do you grow from seeds?? i have a bunch of different seeds, mostly tomato heirloom variety, and i grew a few out a few years ago, but not this year..
i spent close to like $150 on starts from like home depot or lowes or w/e.. i think i got close to 40 plants total, what a racket..

Sprouted 100+ seeds of 30+ varieties. Planted 21 in the bed, gave 10 to a friend, have 25 left from the first batch - ready for planting, and 50 more in a flat ready for up-potting.

My tomatoes have been growing since the end of january from seedlings. I tried an earthbox for shits and gigs and transplanted them into a mix of happyfrog, ocean forest, EWC, CYCO platinum expanded clay hydro pebbles (this shit is my new perlite) and some happy frog tomatoe fertlizer. They look like shit because there old but they have produced over thirty tomatoes per plant with little trellissing just hangin from bungees i only have two boxes. The other one has some heat toleratant hybrids vegging called florida 91.

These are my heirlooms green zebra stripes i started from seed. I moved from this house shortly after i took this picture. I gave all my potted vegetable plants to my land lord including these i hope shees taking care of them. Those are all in happyfrog soil with hydroton and about twentyfive percent ocean forest. I alsoKoop used Happy Frog tomatoe fertilizer i think it was 7-4-5. And some garden lime. I usually just make compost tea from EWC molasses and sometimes some sea kelp. Thats about it for my tomatoes.

I have mine in 4 gal pots on my terrace, tons of flowers but no fruit yet..
