People are racist, an they can use whatever symbols they want to be hateful. That doesn't make the symbol itself racist, it's an inanimate object... Does that mean we should take away peoples right to freedom of expression because another group of people think that it's not right? Which amendment is freedom of speech? Pretty sure it's like #1. What you are saying limits this right, that is what is truly not American IMO.
Google what the confederate flag stands for and read the first 15-30 results.(btw i did this when the confederate flag came up in an outside convo yesterday because I was curious as to the reasons it isn't racist vs the fact that it is associated with it) What you get are people who have your opinion, and people that think there's meaning as history behind it more than racism. I am American in the sense that I like freedom, I enjoy the fact that people here are free I say and think aloud whatever they want. I think what's unamerican(or at this point very American) is to push your opinions on others because you have decided yours is the right one and other people can't think what they do because it doesn't fly with your values. I guess at this point a lo I the world hate us because that's exactly what we do even though we say we stand for freedom. You just cant be American. If you were you would know that this is just not true, you should do some reading...
What other historical meaning do you think the confederate flag could possibly have, other than to display your stance on the right to claim ownership of human beings?
.
I forget where this quote comes from but I think it fits.
"Just because 1 million people eat McDonalds, doesnt make it right."
I really dont care how many people want to keep it up for whatever reasons, what's right is right.
