I think you're wrong on this. A larger rootball means a more established plant which can much more easily handle stress.If you have roots your fine.. I would assume the bigger the root ball the bigger the stress as you touch and break roots so just look it as starting it in the larger pot. You'll be fine

Thanks for they input MGHow old was it when you transplanted? I usually transplant from a cup at around 2 weeks. Done it at 10 days and there was enough roots to hold everything together. It shouldn't hurt it though unless you fumbled and broke the whole thing apart or something. Just let your new pot dry out nicely before watering again. That way the roots will go nuts searching for water.
