Transplanted from cup to pot. No root ball.

I unfortunately took one of my seedlings from a cup and transplanted into a pot. Unfortunately, it had not developed a root ball only a few tap roots. Will this Transplant stress and kill my new seedling?

Maybe . Maybe not. Don't over water it. Best to leave it alone for awhile

If you have roots your fine.. I would assume the bigger the root ball the bigger the stress as you touch and break roots so just look it as starting it in the larger pot. You'll be fine

I think you're wrong on this. A larger rootball means a more established plant which can much more easily handle stress.

How old was it when you transplanted? I usually transplant from a cup at around 2 weeks. Done it at 10 days and there was enough roots to hold everything together. It shouldn't hurt it though unless you fumbled and broke the whole thing apart or something. Just let your new pot dry out nicely before watering again. That way the roots will go nuts searching for water.

Yes it can handle the stress better but if you can avoid touching the root ball at all it will result in less stress.

it probably had 5 or 6 long tap roots that barely touched the bottom of the cup. I transplanted into a 1 gal bucket, didnt break any roots or anything, was very gentle with it and its stood up nice the past few days. It just didnt have any of the soil packed together from not haveing a root ball. it ws about 9 days old ...
