What is the best walmart/canadaintire/homedepto/rona soil that I can use as a base soil. something perferably organic with some nutes in it. i will be mixing in coco coir and using some nutes along the way

I picked up some Amazon Bloom from the feed and seed for my house plants. Seems like good stuff, but looks to me like it will easily compact. I add perlite if I think it needs it. And it's kicked off my banana tree well and have a line tree too. It's about $15 for 1.5 cubic feet but, yeah. Gonna need perlite too.

Why not just buy quality soil and perlite from local hydro store?

I live in more of a feed and seed area. I would have to do some driving to get to a hydro store. Rural you might call it. But def, I would check out a hydro store too.

Kellogg's Patio Plus potting soil... same ingredients in it as FFOF and it costs about $5 a bag. Grab a bag of perlite or vermiculite and mix some in for better aeriation & drainage. I've been using this for about a decade.
Because you get ripped off on the price. There are lots of things in a hydro store that can be found much cheaper at a big box store like Home Depot, Walmart or Kmart. Why pay hugely inflated prices if you don't have to?

well considering all home depots and lowes carries different brands of soil.. i guess it depends on location.. sure you can find soil at home depot and lowes but where i live it all looks like sand.. ive tried to skimp and it doesnt work unless you want sand as soil that takes years to drain even with perlite.. plus the plants looked like shit with it.. never had any issues with ffof so 20 bucks for a 1.5cu ft bag is worth it to me.. add coarse perlite and your golden.. id rather spend the extra 15 dollars and get 3 more ounces of bud then skimp and get less bud, and risk possible issues because they keep their soil outside all the time..and i believe that if you keep stuff outside, your introducing bugs and stuff into your growing environment.. which ones depends on location.. there are some people who do store soil outside without problems.. but im sure they got alot more experience doing it then me.

I LIVE IN NORTHERN CANADA...for you Americans, that's the country above you..I live close to Alaska..so think of rural and times that by 500. the town i live close to ( 3 hour drive) has about 20,000 people in it. most of the roads out here are dirt for the 4ish months of summer we get. and solid ice at -40F for the rest of it.. so yeah going to my local hydro store...8 hour drive...

if they sell that brand in Canada. I was looking at some organic vegetable soil in Canadian tire( its like a more automotive focused version of walmart).. I am going to mix in some coco coir and perilite to keep it from compacting.. i shouldn't really post in the newb section. ive been growing for years.. just my frist time trying to grow way out in the sticks. indoor mind you but where there isnt really anything for stores.. never had to use shit brand soil before..

INGREDIENTS: Aged recycled forest products ( which is what ? ) , aged rice hulls (?) , composted poultry manure, perlite, peat moss, hydrolyzed feather meal, dehydrated poultry manure, dolomite & oyster shell limes (as pH adjusters), bat guano, kelp meal, worm castings.
When I grow I prefer FFOF , Stay growing my friend.
FFOF is already PH ready for a range of 6.3 - 6.8 ( never an issue with seedlings or beginning stages )
I can grow a plant all the way to week 4 WITHOUT ANY fertilizer . THEN I can introduce a feeding.
Choice of medium is important , cheaper doesn't ALWAYS mean better. PROMIX HP is another is another fine soil mix.

The recycled forest products they speak of are essentially smaller thin wood chips. Not the best, but at 5 bucks a bag vs 15-20 bucks a bag, I use it for outdoor growing when the natural soil sucks. It works pretty well. I grow hydro indoors, so I cannot actually attest to it's effectiveness under hid.Kellogg's patio plus ingredients :

okay FOX FARM..NOT IN CANADA.. i can't even find a place that ships it up here...i really wish there were more Canadians on this fourm...if i had a choice for the regular brands that every retard uses id go get them.. but im limited in what I can get..hence why id like to know of a basic brand of soil.

Another " Soil " ( cheap and WORTHLESS ) is at BIG LOTS ( Black Magic Potting Soil ) which is in 1.5 cubic yard size bags. Pricing is a Super Cheap 2 for $10 special now on.
If you want tons of sticks , rocks , bark and other debris then go for it !
Black Magic is part of the SCOTT's family which is also part of Miracle Grow.
Don't waste good bud potential on shitty soil. Look on the forum for CUSTOM MIXES or what MOST growers are using , it's a no brainer.

Miracle grow organic or african violet. Organic doesnt have as much lime . Av can be a bit too alkaline.
Mixeither one with equal parts perlite and good t go
Only nute youl need is bloom booster and epsom or molasses
1/2 tsp per gallon every watering with av to lower ph and its all good. 1/8-1/4 tsp epson. Alittle more fpr molassesl

I'd take advantage of your weather and go hydro as you won't seem to have heat issues. Basically all you would need is to order a few bottles/bags of nutes and a bottle of cal/mag, the rest of your equipment could be bought locally.
With weather like that I'd look into hydro, I'd be growing exclusively hydro with such an environment. In a lot of areas, the summer months are far too hot for it. (unless you want to run an AC unit which drives up the power bill something horrible) I'm in that situation now, hydro is out of the question, I know for sure I'd be fighting heat related root issues so I have to go soil unless it's the dead of winter.
