Only point I was making is that the A51 light is more flexible,you can connect them together or hang them separate so they can be adjusted to a uneven canopy,say with different strains or to even out the light over your space,. I can guarantee there is a problem with even coverage on the more powerful Optic units,this is common among manufacturers,especially with lenses.

I agree, ~500W dissipation within a ~18" x ~12" frame isn't ideal, nor efficient although it's up in the air on whether or not people want to hang multiple, tiny lights in a grow space. The W90's actually reminded me of my ole' *Crowns*, but just a little prettier .

I don't know if large scale growers will want to hang multiple lights, but...

I would bet that lights for small, non-commercial, home-based grow spaces have the potential to be a significant and growing market segment. Half of your average modern closet usually works out to about a 2x2 space, and I'm thinking with more states legalizing there will be a growing number of cannabis plants growing in well lit closets. It's not as sexy as making huge lights for massive grows, but (assuming they are marketing them well) I'll bet A51 will sell W90's as fast as they can make them... and with any luck they are making them right now...

I'm not sure 'copying' is the right word. I think the emergence of modular LED designs is something that consumers have been asking for, and multiple companies are coming up with methods to do so.

Admittedly, I haven't been following super closely, I don't know who was first. Just my own interpretation. I think area 51 has the best style of a modular system thus far.

Maybe small closet sized grows want smaller units but I think most of us want units that can cover equal size to a 600/1000w HID light aka 4x4 or 5x5 area not a 1x1 foot area that cost 4 grand to cover a 4x4. I won't bother with lights that can't cover at least a 3x3 area too much work to be bothered and too much money wasted you can just go to the junk yard buy a big scrap of metal and use that to make a DIY COB light for 1/4th the cost these ridiculous lights cost; really over premade LEDs until they can bring something to the table. These single COB units shouldn't cost more than 100 dollars anything more is just insane mark up they are mass producing these meaning they get the best prices on their cases , power supplies , fans, and LED diodes. Greedy is such an ugly thing makes something awesome like LEDs turn to overpriced door stops.

That will be an interesting thing to find out in the coming years, if across the full market "most of us" are mid-sized to larger growers, or whether a fast growing segment of the market is closet growers. Unless light manufacturers let us know their sales breakdown, we might not ever know.

But the bottom line is you can add small ones to make a big one, but if you have a big one you can't take it apart, spread it out, or have some parts hanging higher than others for mixed grows. The flexibility, efficiency, and control provided my multiple small units makes sense to me. The next design need to be filled will be the flexible rack system for these lights, but that might be consumer produced.

It does add some cost to have them linkable rather individual models with varying power, but it is quite small.
Having multiple panels of varying power will cost more in initial machining costs, which will in the end cost more than the smaller model that can link up to make bigger panels.
The way I'm doing it, it gives more options at less overall cost. People can choose what to get based on their needs and budget. Not everyone will be able to afford to spend $4000+ on lighting a 4x4, that's why there's a 50w version of the CXB. Still great efficiency. You can take 12 of them for 25% less cost and 200 extra watts, and make three 47"x7" panels and spread those 600w over a 4x4.
For those that can't afford that, they can look to the Veros. Still decent efficiency. Connect six of them in a 24" x 24" panel that makes 480w, or 8 of them in a 24" x 32" panel that makes 640w.
It really wouldn't be 16 individual panels over a 4x4, it'd be 4 panels, much more manageable.
There's something for everyone, mostly.

Sounds like a bad investment to me, 4 grand to cover a 4x4 I could get plasma lights for less than that or build an indoor greenhouse attached to my house and use the sun and get like 10 times bigger area!!!

The whole lego thing is just a sales tactic to make growers buy multiple units and of course more units = more money than 1 larger unit , just look at apache tech, their AT600 is 2500$ and that is 4 AT200's connected into 1 unit, but their AT200's cost 1099$ EACH! see what I am saying if you bought 4 AT200's it would cost over 4 grand but the one that is already built together with 4 AT200's inside it is only 2500$.

I'm upset they are using gimmick sales tactics to mark up their profits so much, individual units cost more PERIOD. The lights you use are a prime example of this. I planned on buying a 4x4 area worth of LEDs from a51 but with these prices and dumb looking tiny units, no way.

CXB 3590s @ 700mA is a different thing than Vero 29s @ 2.15a. There will be a huge cost difference. You're acting like the CXBs are the only option.

Honestly, area-51 seems to have always targeted the closet grower. That's their niche, so of course their designs are going to implement features that closet growers are calling for. The large scale grower isn't really their niche and has a whole different set of requirements.

In all honesty, most people with an indoor garden don't have a 4x4 or even a 3x3 space. Yes a lot of marijuana gardeners do have spaces that big. Most who grow vegetables indoors just dedicate a small closet or counter top to the purpose. That's really who these lights are made for, people who only need one or two.
