Hey guys,
Sorry if this is the wrong thread but I recently bought this jhx-10s5p driver to power my vero 29 3500k and was wondering if I needed to connect the ground wire or just bypass that and splice it with an ungrounded power cord.

Since i never use thermal grease (supraspl said grease is better) and saw what happened when you done it the wrong way, i decide to go with thermopads.I believe there is less chances to go wrong with pads.
If nobody can help me with this, i will buy the 30X30X1mm 6w/mk and cross fingers!!
Have a great day ★
grease is easy to use.

16 sq/inch,it is 40X40cm...wow!!!with only 3.5gr...about 160 cob with it,am I right?
So for 1 it is ±0,022gr,much less,I guess, than what I saw on many bid...it is not a layer it is a mist of TIM,a shadow,a hint...now I better understand the tap tips (top!)
So now I know that if you are good with a butter knife, you would be with TIM...!?!
Have a good night©

Are the galxyhydro LED's any good? I found a 600w for 249.99
Hey
I actually started my grow with that exact LED Unit and its not bad for Vegging a few plants but would not recommend this light for flowering by itself i would either replace with a better light or add another light to supplement its shortcomings.

Cisco X with dots...humm...looks very easy,but a bit hazardous!!?
We need TIM in spray...lol 2 or 3 layer like a paint spray...cooool,but from what I saw it is far from be liquid,it look pretty solid for a paste and look harder to spread than butter!
Is it easier to apply when it is very warm(38-42°C)or it is better at lower or cold temperatures??!
Real hot in the shades...96°F

Should/Can I Start My Own Thread?

Hey Everyone,

This is my situation:
  • My best friend (I've known since 2nd grade) had been diagnosed with cancer about 5 months ago. He is too weak nowadays to do anything. He buys cannabis where we live (in a rural mountain town) just like everyone else does. He has a card, but we are literally hours away from anywhere that could help us. And because we are rural here, everything is at least twice as much…

  • There are at least 16 others in a 20 mile radius of where I am that have the same problem as my best friend. And they all actually keep in touch to help each other out (getting cannabis). Sometimes There just isn't any available for a week or two, and we have to make a long drive to a really dangerous place to try and get what he needs.

  • If he doesn't smoke or eat his marijuana, he cannot eat. I don't know how to explain how useless I feel right now, and I want to help him out. Last month was his birthday and I asked what I could do for him. He told me if I could somehow figure out a way to make getting his bud easier, that would be the best thing I could do at the moment.

  • I really don't know if he will make it or not. But I do know that he still has a few years left in him (going by the doctors and my own gut feeling).

  • I have decided to sell some collectibles I have had for years that were handed down to me. I have managed to get together $875.00 (USD). And I want to grow a few plants for him.

  • Unfortunately, I do not know a lot about LED’s or COB’s. But I have a lot of free time and will learn. There is so much information that it is really hard to find something to suit my needs. And there are so many different factors that are available for an LED light that I am starting to get a headache.

  • I have spent the last month trying to get down what I needed and what to do. Putting them together is not a problem. I am a pro when it comes to solder. But besides that, I am stuck. And that is a lot to say for someone who searches the WWW for a living.

  • I don't smoke myself, so it will all go to him.

What I have to work with:
  • I have $875.00 (USD) to start this project.

  • I have enough space for a 2’x4’x7’ tent in my kitchen’s pantry (just bought a Mylar tent to fit perfectly).

  • I live in a place where we get all 4 seasons. But the winters are a bit longer and have been known to (over the past 7 years) push through the 4 seasons. Leaving us with more like 3 seasons (8 month winter, 2 month spring, 2 month summer).

  • The elevation here is: 6,968 Feet (2,124 Meters).

  • The tap water here is hard (HARD). So hard that the toilets get mineral rings if you don’t scrub them every 3 days. The water comes from a community well (free).

  • I live in an old adobe. A real one. It is very dusty in my house and stays that way whether or not I clean once a month or three times a day. Which is why I thought the tent would be a good idea.

  • There isn't but a few police officers out here and I have no issues with them and they have none wityh me. Plus, they get high and wouldn't care either way. Unfortunately, the National Guard goes out of their way every couple of weeks to fly by at night and check our little town (but mostly the forests to the immediate North and West ends of our town) out to check for meth labs and people growing.

  • There is no soil here. Only clay and a mixture of rock and clay dirt. Everything has clay in it.

  • I work from home and have a lot of free time.

  • I have a large backup generator for the house that has no delay and will run on battery power for 2 hours with our dryer on and just about everything else in the house on before the diesel generator kicks in for 6 hours of use (before it needs more gas).

What I was hoping to do:
  • Build a nice hydroponic setup in this 2’x4’x7’ Mylar tent with COB LED’s.

  • Be able to start learning by doing with the tent I have.

  • After getting the hang of this, upgrading to a much larger setup and hopefully being to help the others out here who have medical needs for cannabis.

  • Being able to use less COB’s that are more powerful would be nice for my initial grow space. I would like to use what I learn to make more of the same lights when expanding the room I have to grow.

  • Get the exact mode/part numbers of what I would need, so that there was no way I could accidentally get the wrong part (things like 2-step/4-step, wattage/voltage, etc).
For example, when I go to look at LED’s and filter the choices to Cree CXA3070 3000k’s on Mouser or DigiKey, there are still 135 different options to choose from. I would really like to know exactly (exactly) what I need.

  • I would like to grow from start to finish with the same lights, but then be able to add some on later to fine tune everything.

  • Have someone (or a few people, or everyone) help me get this going from start to finish. Then hopefully creating a really great and updated tutorial for a project like this.

PS: I just got back from the parts store and had no luck getting what I needed... I need help...

Would it be more efficient to run a 2 cob setup with one driver, or have each of them independently driven? CXB3070's to be exact, they are for a clone box. And I want them to be dimmable and running @1400mAh.. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks!

lol it's not. 40x40cm is about 250 sq inch.
16 sq inch = 103.2 cm^2 which is about 10x10cm square.

on a personal note, it's encouraging to hear the love for your friend come out in your words. I understand what it is to have someone that you want to help desperately, but, for which there is little you can do.

I'm not a cob expert, but I've made a few lights. There are a few choices you need to make. First off, are you wanting to drive the COBs soft for higher electrical efficiency and lower heat? That comes at additional cost, but it helps to choose between COB manufacturers. The VERO v2 COBs would be a good choice if you are going to choose to drive less quantity of COBS at higher current. If you want higher efficiency (resulting in more COBs driven at lower current), you should choose cree CXBs (generally you want CXB over CXA). Make that choice, and we can direct you to threads for which you can model your light. I'm sure @SupraSPL would be happy to chime in and help as well.

Thanks for taking the time to respond and give me a heads up. I am not sure what it was I was expecting. I have never just signed-up for a forum and had my first post be a huge question. I figured I broke a rule already or said something I shouldn't have. Thanks for being friendly.

One thing I should have mentioned was that temperature is a big factor. We have a fireplace here, and that is the only source of heat we have. Outside it gets around -10°F in the deep winter months. The climate is extremely dry year round (like nose bleed-dry). I know I would have to do something to keep the temperature in a specific range. During the summer, it stays pretty cool. It gets up into the low 100's, and is very (VERY) dry. Our adobe house keeps everything around room temperature though. Not sure if a source for cool air and/or climate control would be as important in the summers here (in comparison to the winter and the need for heat). If I have to get a full-fledged solution for climate control (heat and cool), then I will.

  • I was wondering if your suggestions would change at all due to the fact that heat will be a necessity during the winter?
  • Does requiring climate and/or temperature control have any effect on your suggestions? Or change your thoughts towards different conclusions when choosing between Vero and Cree?
I am pretty sure I am incapable of creating a thread (because of new user limitations, etc). But I was wondering if you thought I should try and make a separate thread for this whole process, or if I should post this elsewhere on the forum?

I am going to ride this through from the beginning to the end and I would like to share the full progress and results.

I am not much help but you will most likely find that it will take some trial by error to get every thing dialed in. Like humidity and temps might be the biggest challenge. I just "do it by ear" when unsure. good luck on all your projects CT. I use a milk house heater in my shop/grow room in the winter and it woks good all by itself although it's not as cold here in Washington where I live.

Kessil - Kessil H150/H350
Magnum LED - Magnum LED
Blackdog - BDxxxx/Platinum XL

Hey randybishop,
From my research Plant Photonics is the only one on your list that uses the Osram Oslon SSL80 chips. Other companies lie about using the Oslon SSL80 or only use a couple.
there are many reasons these SSL80 LEDs are more expensive!

Plant Photonics flagship panel 280 Watt

http://www.plantphotonics.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=33
799.00 GBP=1,238.17 USD

  1. LED Details
    • 3 watts 24 Royal Blue 455nm
    • 3 watts 56 Red 623nm
    • 3 watts 56 Hyper Red 660nm
    • 3 watts 16 3500K Warm White
    • Total 152 leds

I myself would buy this:

http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=251760891428&globalID=EBAY-US

Osram ZELION HL 150 watt panel
Top Bin Osram OSLON SSL80 LEDs
30 Deep Blue LEDs at 451 nm
96 Hyper Red LEDs at 660 nm
for maximum chlorophyll A&B activation

That's 126 Oslon SSL80 LEDs in a fanless, waterproof/hose proof 1000,000 hour life warranty for $949.00 USD

From my research the Osram ZELION HL models are the much better deal. With the plant phototronics you're getting 16 white LEDs, I assume so you can see your plant. 8 more reds and 6 less blue for $288 more.

The Osram clsims 150watts where the plant photonics claims 280watts which means the LEDs must be overdriven giving them a shorter life and if you look at the unit the open exposed fan is blowing on flat metal.

There's more details that if you spend months researching like I have you'll start to see. The plant phototronics is legit. It's a great light....much better than the non Oslon LEDs (you'll have to research why) but it compared to Osram line has a huge footprint which means for me less PAR for my legal grow limit.
I'm in Colorado and can only have 3 flowering plants at a time by law. For me keeping my electricity bill for my whole 2400+ sqft home below $50 a month is important. Which means using a high par low wattage light that will last for many many many years.

On a side note, if you look at advanced LED lights.

https://advancedledlights.com/3w-led-grow-lights/?gclid=Cj0KEQjw0ZauBRDOnoGQ2PTb9YoBEiQAQ6m_7I28CJgInRmv8h3LY_s60CAreiiybdSZxbZiGnb7VbYaAv0H8P8HAQ

You can google them easily and find so much great information on these lights......start looking a little closer.
They spend most of their money on marketing. Which means the grow forms are filled with their imaginative propaganda.
It just humors me. Look at their website and scroll through the product reveiw. It's insane! Most every rating is PERFECT and I cannot find one spelling or grammatical error in the reviews......At least their marketing department has great English writing skills. But the people who I know on other forms have left not perfect reviews and it never posts publicly on the site. Hmmm

Just my .2 ct
