All those prices seem outrageously high? Are people really investing ~500$ into 96W of LED? Sure everything looks like it came out of a factory but aren't we after performance as growers rather than looks?

that happens when stuff gets build in high wage countries with customer protection laws in mind and not in some mom's basement by someone who just wants to make a quick buck.
i dare you to sell your lights in germany, we have a 2 year mandatory warranty, also some electronic protection laws that require you to take old lights back to recycle them properly...

I'm not really understanding. You can spread COB's...or you can spread single dies. Or you can pack them both tight. Beam angle is of course apart of the thought/design/layout process...but you can get <65˚ for cobs too. YOu can do just about the same things with either platform.Is it a big advantage to have the narrower beam angle(65°) emitters spread out over the structure vs fitting lenses or reflectors to higher powered 120° cobs?
