Size of pot's relavance to yeild,veg time ?

1 gallon pot after second set of leaves usually for 3 to 4 weeks then to 5 gallon pots for 4 to 5 weeks total of 8 weeks veg and I yield 3/4 - 1 lb off of 3-4 dakini kush.

thanks for this information - i've finally been able to hang my light differently in my veg tent and can start to seriously increase my veg times. what are you then flowering in? i can't get them too big so need to be careful. i'll probably veg for just a few weeks extra for right now. i usually wait to up-pot to 1-gallon when they get to the fourth set of leaves.

i use air-pots so can keep my plants in them a bit longer than using solo cups or something like that. i've been increasing my veg time (and obviously pot sizes) increasingly over time because i don't want to out-grow the flower room and am learning a particular strain for my particular grow/flower area(s). increasing my strain's veg time by two or three weeks has substantially increased my harvests-almost double.

Thanks' guys and girls. I'm mainly talking about indoor growing. Haven't tied air pots but I've use smart pot and was not impressed with them. And I don't think a 200 gallon pot will fit in my basement.

I let them finish in the 5 gallon pots. What are you using for starter pots, a plant on its 4th internode is usually too big for anything less than a 1 gallon, I suppose I only use little tiny pots to start there's no way you can keep them past the second internode but if you use say half a gallon then I guess you could let them go till their fourth internode.

A lot of variables in this question. But in general, I've run 1/3/5/7 gallon fabric pots, my larger producers like HSO Blue Dream and a DIY cross of JTR x Blueberry can both yield 1 oz. per gallon of medium so that's what I use as my yard stick. Of course I run a couple of strains for their med properties like Harlequin and Blue Pyramid and they yield 1/2 of that on average.
So strain first, pot size and veg time are co-dependant, a rule of thumb I use is at least one week of veg per gallon of medium, adjusted for strains. Lower producing strains I add veg time, heavy producing strains I pretty well follow the 1 week/gallon to produce the target of 1 oz (dry) per gallon of medium.

As a rule of thumb, the bigger the container, the bigger the plant, is true with certain limitations...
To my way of thinking, a container has to be moved without much effort, which is why I never use containers over five gallons.
However, all things being equal, a plant in a larger container will always provide more net dry buds than a smaller container of the same strain plant.

And what about the variables as far as sativas over indicas ? I believe root growth on sativas is longer once flowering commences.

That's a huge variable, hybrids tend to do well on average from a production standpoint. Going pure indy or sat will rarely give you a big producer, or maybe you get one but it's a sat and takes 11 weeks to finish. There aren't a lot of short cuts to getting big producers but I've had really good luck with crossing/hybrids. That one cross I mentioned of JTR (sat-dom) with Blueberry (Indica-dom) is a good example, neither one of those strains produced great, JTR was max. .75 oz./gallon, no matter how much training or veg time I gave it, it would hit a wall. After some pheno hunting for the traits I was looking for I found one pheno with the high THC/frost from JTR, some hashy flavour from the Blueberry, can produce 1 oz./gallon, and finishes in 8 weeks or less - Nirvana.

For either sativa or indica dom hybrids, the longer (and larger) you allow the plant to veg, the larger the yield of buds will be.
It is easier to grow bigger vegetative plants in larger containers...depending upon how much time and space you have indoors...as I said there are many variables which determine the final yield.
A smaller container outdoors will almost always out yield the same size and strain container indoors....

wow 8 weeks veg for 1/4 pound is not very good results must be strain issues i use totes start off with 1" cube tray clones into 4" pots after a week they go into 3 gallon containers this is all pre veg i mean under T5's so after about 10 days they go into 5 gallon totes from there massive training under 1 k's by 4th / 5 th week there ready for 34 gallon totes with another week to 2 weeks veg so with total T5 pre veg and 1k veg
so i would say 5 1/2 - 6 week veg for a 14 - 18 oz dry plant from a 2" clone consistently
