Yeah, I'm sure you're right. I get excited and exaggerate I'm sure. Not sure how sitting on your couch for 6 hours playing Cunt Quake 4 isn't being lazy, but I'm sure there's an argument somewhere. When I interview them now and I ask what kind of stuff do they do on their free time and they say "oh, well, I'm a gamer." (Which probably happens about 30% of all candidates I interview).. I tell them "hey, do whatever you want in your free time, but don't tell someone that you're a gamer- know your audience- they want to be impressed."
Well gaming is a little more engaging than watching TV at least. Both are admittedly lazy pastimes though…

I’m just curious about number of hours a week spent “gaming”. Don’t know if anyone ever admits how much they play, except with other gamers. Is it embarrassing? I guess it must be if you’re calling them all losers.

Guess you’re all calling @sunni a loser too. I’m Telling!

If you make it here sunni, whats the peak number of weekly hours you spent gaming?

EDIT: JUST saw your post, you beat me to it!

youre marginalizing a small group of lazy people to say were all like that

just about every gamer i know has a full time job owns a house or rents has all their bills paid and has a very stable life some had kids, most do other outside activities

theres not much of a difference between playing a game for a couple hours a night, and watching tv or reading a book,

you asked people a question in an interview what do you do in your free time
you got an answer

chances are they just said gamer if youre employing 20 somethings with no work ethic the real answer was probably
“pub crawl with my friends and get massively hammered and do dumb fucking shit"
Still curious how many hours you’d spend gaming in an average week at the peak of your gamer days. I have no idea what constitutes “a gamer”.

Yeah, I get what you're saying. Sorry to lump everyone into that group, I know not all are bad. If you seriously think that there's no difference between reading a book and playing video games I think you may need help though. Maybe you just said it and didn't mean it so no big deal but there's no fucking way in hell my daughter is playing on her DS or xbox or any of that shit instead of reading a book.

And when you start holding interviews you'll know what I mean. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to know what answers are expected of you, and both pub crawl and gaming fall into the same category.... Don't talk about them.

And I'm impressed that almost all "gamers" you know sound like upstanding individuals, because I've only met 1. He holds the world record for fastest super Mario 3 game ever and he lives here in Austin and is a friend of mine. Every other one has been a loser.

it all depends really

when i was playing wow with the guild it was 9 hours a week on world of warcraft after work kinda deal tues , thurs, sunday 10-1am
but i went to school fulltime doing that time and also worked around 30-35 hours a week at the library

if say a new game comes out that ive been wanting to play for a really long time , such as the witcher 3, i may spend more time binging on it for a little while,
ive been waiting for the witcher 3 for forever, ive played 93 hours on it, but i last played it on september 9th , so you can see i binged on it, and now will resume regularly playing maybe a few times a week for a few hours
however that being said the witcher 3 and said games like that are huge games filled with things to do and average at about 400 hours

its all relative i guess some weeks i dont play games at all, some weeks i play more than others, it also depends on if i have a job, currently i do not and it is the first time since i was 15 that i dont have one and dont expect to have one for a very long time so i have more freedom to play games but thats cause of my current immigration status not cause im lazy and unwilling to work

yes well unfortunately the education system lacks where they should be having classes on how to take interviews, no one tells you how to do one, so people say dumb shit
im not sure what kinda company you work for but if its a hands on kinda company expect people with little to no brain power and more so muscle power which isnt a bad thing they just think differently than academically implied people .they are more creative people who work hands on .

now as games not being on the same as books, youre right but kinda not right, depending on which game youre playing there can be an extensive amount of reading involved, puzzle games, games with actual story plots, dialogue between characters , clues, questing...a shit ton of fucking reading, some games you literally read WAY MORE than you actually play any action
granted some people skip along the reading but i enjoy reading so i love finding something like say an artifact or a journal log in say the newest tomb raider game and taking 10 mintues to read through some "torn pages"

i think youre slightly unaware of exactly how many different genres of games there are theres much more than just call of duty shooting people kinda games..., and as for childrens games they usually try to put some learning into it either mathematical problems, critical thinking skills, and problem solving, along with reading for said appropriate ages. although it is all sneaky hidden into it

The games Clock your hours? That’s amazing. So do you know how many total hours you’ve spent playing world of warcraft?

I find this all interesting. Never clocked my reading, socializing, internet time. Usually I only know how many hours I spend in a workout class or running.

I’m spending a lot more time on my computer now at work than I will in the future. But still, it’s more than I’m used to. I’ve had a physical job most of my life.

How do Canadian degrees transfer over in the states? I know our nursing program is highly regarded stateside, just no idea about undergraduate degrees.

Right on. Well I'm not picking on you Sunni, you're good shit and can form complete sentences, so I know you're not lazy. But damn oh damn there's some fucking losers out there fo sho.

And regardless of book vs. video game, I probably just come from a diff generation, but like I said my daughter stays off the screens and nose in the book. That's how I was raised and I think it's important.

Alright, toodalloo I gotta run.

I remember playing zelda ocarina of time all day during summer break as a kid. But as I started getting older video games weren't as fun as they used to be. Now I spend my free time hiking, tending to my garden, baking and taking care of my siblings.

i think what constitutes a gamer is someone who enjoys playing games, i dont think its the amount of hours or what games or if youre any good just as long as yu like them

My wife says "I sometimes wish I had a robo vagina, but them some stupid man would come along and invent a bionic cock."But seriously,am I dating myself by saying that the only video games I ever played where Atari Plug n Play.(Remember them)Then whatever that was with Mario Brothers, the first one.I maybe spent a total of two days playing, just weren't for me.We never spent much time on the desk top either, used it mainly like a crystal ball..But three years ago my Wife said she wanted an IPad for Christmas. Now she sometimes spends up to five hours a day playing Cards and bubble mania. She bought me one this Christmas and I do love using it,I just wish I could figure out the parental locks she put on it.Everytime I try to watch porn,it says access denied. And a picture of her pops up.I new better than to let her get ahead by two years

Warcraft was so much cooler before WOW, I still love that game.

I've been a gamer since coleco. Still am and almost 40, not near as much mind you, but still play regularly.

Being a gamer, I've always been interested in electronics. That's led me down a DJ, programming, web design, web admin and website owner path.

The potential for gamers is almost endless in this age, we live in a tech world and many of our daily use devices need coders and techs.

I do it all for fun or hobby-ish now.

oh shit ya,
with how much technology has grown gamers have endless opportunities for job employment in certain fields no doubt about that

not to mention the people who do E sports and make a shit ton of fucking money playing games.

honestly i can say world of warcraft did indeed give me employment experience though i would never say so

nothing like organizing and leading 40 fucking people to do a specific task, and work together to accomplish a goal
games like that do actually give you really good leadership ,team work and organizational skills

it also helps you for when you get into a management position, because in wow youre basically checking every single stat of ever player who you ran with for next time you run, all their gear, gems, enchants, what they can do to better improve their skill sets, its literally like being in a management position

i know the several years of guild leadership i had in world of warcraft GREATLY helped me to talk to people in a direct manner, through constructive criticism when i worked night shifts bar rush at a local restaurant ... while everyone was panicked when we had a line up of 200 people , kitchen tickets coming in left right and right , and having to make that much food quickly, i was cool calm and collected
also 15 years of restaurant experience helped, but definitely other skills i picked up organizing and play games and doing leadership helped as well

although i will add the amount of math involved in world of warcraft is sickening, reading over stat charts from the previous raid night to better improve your team is a pain in the fucking ass lol

That's just it. There's so many different spin offs that can and do affect real life. The management training that led to people skills is a huge benefit in real life scenarios.

In many of the games now, they're very interactive with real people, across the planet.

It's not like it used to be, digging up sand to get to the next level if you could defeat bowser. These games even train army personnel that protect some of the people who stand firm with military and look down on gamers.

Let's be real about vids and gamers and what real world applications are. Those kids (gamers) protect you.

dont forget that a SHIT TON of universities of great importance literally studied world of warcraft on how virus's spread during the corrupted blood incident
on world epidemics and how they affect us and how they could effect us

Although limited to only a few of the game's servers the numbers of characters that have fallen victim is thought to be in the thousands.

Originally it was thought that the deadly digital disease was the result of a programming bug in a location only recently added to the Warcraft game.

However, it now appears that players kicked off the plague and then kept it spreading after the first outbreak.
