hydro talk about autos .....weight in if u got EXP

i do mostly soil grows even experimenting with mixing up a good soil for autos (still tweaking..found a new base soil already tweaked with bat crap)

but at this point i have a fair amount of extra cash gathering up so i can afford to invest into a Hydro set up
done some single bucket DWCs over the winter time plan on doing it again .....buddy is pushing me to repeat it

i am thinking of a 2 4 site RDWC....RO filter
1 for veggie 1 for flower ....the veggie one would be strait like u see when u buy ....the flower i was going to add in a water chiller and replace the stones with micro pore stones

now here are the ?s to the old growers of autos @tekdc911

do i need to run all the same strains in the 4 sites or can i mix them up 4 different kinds or just 2 (i know match heights of the strains but the 4 different kind each wanting a different mix of feed does this work well in a RDWC)

other part is feed .....as working with soil i can buy the quart bottles of feeds and they last me 4/5 grow cycle as i am only adding on with the feed......do i need to start investing into gallon size or bigger ....add on should i stick to a gallon size or should i go for largest to get best price

last part ......should i always attempt to make monster plants or should i try to find the happy middle (if the happy middle please share your feed plans for a 20gallon rdwc) 4 sites 4 gallons each mixing cell 4 gallons total of 20 gallons

i like to do a month cycle so i always have something new each month .........currently i cut back and only need to supply about half pound a month .....the extra the hydro will make compared to soil i was going to cure correctly and just fill a closet with it allowing me to shut down here and move to another site with out missing a beat in my orders

final note ....as it is hydro i am investing in a portable power gen incase my power ever goes out i can save them from drowning maybe even get some lower lvl light on it

You sound like you already know.what your doing autos will grow as far as you take them space, nutes, lighting, airflow.
Different strains usually stay the same height in the same grow system under the same light

1. yes growing one strain would simplify things ... but at the same time nute demands will be different plant to plant either way you will need to find a happy spot for " most " of the plants and cull whatever doesnt fall in line with the others as soon as you notice
2. i would use slight LST of the main for height control ... again you would have to find a happy spot
feed.... have you looked into maxigrow and bloom ... its a dry/powdered nute and a fraction of the bottle cost and $40 in nutes may last you a few grows ....
monsters .... genetically all are not equal so once again find a happy spot some will be pushed hard and some just doin their thing ....

final note ... gen set is a good idea but a few batteries and a 12v air compressor or pump would work just the same and a couple car batteries are nothing compared to the price of a generator and can be charged and ready in stand bye and when you kick the pumps on your neighbors will be none the wiser seeing how you dont have a gas motor running outside

i looked into the battery back ups choices (battery back up for computers)
but a 8 site would be a commercial grade pump with a valve system .........looking at around 15-20 w of power that would not last more then a few hours and power has been known to go out for 3-5 days with a heavy ice/snow storms .......we do have a dairy farm and cops on the road so plowing is about 32 hours after the storms

so a power gen running is no thing out here when power is out .....i got the idea from my neighbor
plan to jerry rig it so the fuel tank has 48 hours of fuel feeding to it with 2 extra cans .....we should be out of the snow before it runs out

as for the monster ......i had the ppm in the 3000 4000 range mix of 3 feed systems

thanks i was worried about staggered plant lvls

didnt think about snow .... this is what i had planned to do eventually with a solar panel to maintain the batteries when not in use
this is just a example i randomly grabbed .... what i had in mind was the 12v pumps and tanks for airbags they use on the lowriders
http://www.ebay.com/itm/150PSI-DC-12V-AIR-COMPRESSOR-WITH-6-LITER-TANK-FOR-TRAIN-HORNS-MOTORHOME-TIRES-/161703814142?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368

and the monster had the genetics to handle the feed you gave it not all strains or even plants of the same strain will have the exact results im sure youve noticed this though

something like that you could just put a small valve to regulate it and it would kick on and off ..... in a keeping them alive situation you wont need nearly as much air flowing as you would use when keeping them happy ..... i see where youre coming from though just flip the genny on and the plants wont even miss a beat

that was my biggest concern is we often lose power for 3-6 hours and that alone has kept me away from hydro ... so i stick with coco when i feel the need to be in full control

well i was thinking this one
http://www.amazon.com/Hydrofarm-AAPA110L-112-Watt-110-LPM-Commercial/dp/B002JPPFJ0/
10 sites count the mixing cells that would be 11 lpm for each site ( in us gallons that is almost 3 gallons of air per min) ...trying out a new micro pore system
and use a 4 site pump for drip rings in the veggie stage

as for the gen
http://www.homedepot.com/p/Sportsman-7-500-Watt-Dual-Fuel-Generator-with-Electric-Start-and-Runs-on-LPG-or-Regular-Gasoline-GEN7500DF/204789149

LPG rigging to a bigger tank is easier ......but gas is a choice .....worst case we always have a few full tanks here for a heater .....it is way more then i need so i can run a tv/ computer something so we have news other then radio
the way the house is designed (late 70s) i can put the gen outside near dryer vent .......feed the cables tho that plug it up with a towel for draft feed to everywhere with 40 feet or less of power cords

the only major issue is the sound of it ......78 to 90 dbs law is after 10 pm have to below 60db or can be ticketed......so got to build some sound baffling area for it too but it can not be a permit structure (otherwise u need permits and power ppl to come by sign off like it was tied into the house tho the power box)

maybe just find another muffler/silencer for the motor im sure they have some

propane is usually a bit quieter from the fork lifts ive ran on it compared to the diesel ones possibly quieter than gas ... i know it puts out less horsepower so probably less sound aswell

its just slowing the air down a bit by lowering the pressure and absorbing some of the DB's in the baffles
