No need to carry on, Amos doesn't know what he's talking about, his comment was ignorant plain and simple.
Posting all of BB's recordings that charted, what position each peaked at, the genres they charted in, the story of Lucille, and posting examples of other artists with 'hits' that are mostly unknown outside their specific genres, hardly exemplifies ignorance of the
topic.

A smart man would know the correct usage of ignorant before using it in any circumstance, but especially in one where you hoped to make a substantive point.

Ya dig?

quick, edit your post before he heckles you man,
PLAIN and simple...
You're not saying that the cat slinging 'ignorant' around misspelled plain, are you? No big thing...anyone can leave a typo ......and he's been sufficiently heckled I think.

Saying BB King only had one hit, claiming he didn't have a song named Lucille and claiming his success came from just one hit song is ignorance. Do I have to post the definition for you? Copy and pasting from articles off Billboard.com doesn't make you knowledgable in a subject.

B B King, in fact, had one hit. That's a fact. His time as a semi-mainstream act was limited, but in fact, a result of the one 'hit'. Also a fact.

He had other songs that' charted' - in mediocre fashion - in specific, narrow genres. That's also a fact. A smart guy should know that #28 and below in R&B charts does not equal a 'hit' which is why no one outside fans knows any of them.

That you're an offended fan changes none of those facts.

Here's a track listing of B B King's 'Greatest Hits' collection. Have a look: there's one hit included, and the rest.......were not...lol. In other words, a one song CD called B B King's Hit would be more appropriate:

Disc: 1
1. Everyday I Have The Blues
2. Sweet Little Angel (Live)
3. How Blue Can You Get?
4. Paying The Cost To Be The Boss
5. Don't Answer The Door
6. Why I Sing The Blues
7. The Thrill Is Gone
8. I Like To Live The Love
9. Hummingbird
10. To Know You Is to Love You
11. Chains And Things
12. Better Not Look Down
13. Never Make A Move Too Soon
14. There Must Be A Better World Somewhere
15. Playin' With My Friends

Hits ? On planet BDOGK, I guess.....

#28 and below on the R&B charts? What are you talking about? How do you expect me not to call you ignorant when you type shit like that?

His first hit was "Three O'Clock Blues" which was released in 1951. That song alone spent 5 weeks at number 1 on the Rhythm and Blues Charts and was the song that launched his career. He recorded "The Thrill is Gone" eighteen years later.

Everyone knows 'Three O'Clock Blues", right? Why....I bet half the peeps on RIU were humming it today...lol....here's the 'facts'

"B.B. King's Billboard chart history dates back to 1951, when his first charting single, "3 O'Clock Blues," reached No. 1 on Billboard's Most-Played in Juke Box Rhythm & Blues Records chart, and on the Best Selling Retail Rhythm & Blues Records chart. "

1951 ? That's like 63 years ago, am I close?

OK, I give.....A #1 from an even narrower genre than the others - the 1951 Juke Box charts ! I mean...it's amazing that Bill Haley ever got airplay....except, he had a bunch of 'real' hits...lol.

Do you even have an arguement or do you just like to type shit for a reaction? Most people on RIU don't listen to the Blues, Blues is not a popular genre and never has been. The fact that he rated 15 on a chart that lumps all genres together is impressive for a Blues musician.

"Following his first Billboard Rhythm and Blues chart number one, "3 O'Clock Blues" (February 1952), B.B. King became one of the most important names in R&B music in the 1950s, amassing an impressive list of hits including "You Know I Love You", "Woke Up This Morning", "Please Love Me", "When My Heart Beats like a Hammer", "Whole Lotta Love", "You Upset Me Baby", "Every Day I Have the Blues", "Sneakin' Around", "Ten Long Years", "Bad Luck", "Sweet Little Angel", "On My Word of Honor", and "Please Accept My Love".

People that don't listen to Blues can't name his songs? No shit.

Yeah...you know why? You should...by now.......8)

Blues is not a popular genre and never has been.
By George...I think you're getting it - finally.

Songs charting in a genre that is "not a popular genre and never has been" are then, by your own admission, not hits.

Thanks for playing, and have a nice night.

So you're too much of a bigot to acknowledge the Billboard Rhythm and Blues charts? Yea I get it.

Whoever started this thread why was a picture not included of your "super bud"? with a picture would come more refined responses. otherwise most of the members wont believe you and wont have any motivation to actually help you.

Well, just to jump in here on the music thing…

Keep in mind that when BB King was in his prime, he was just one of the black people who was even allowed to make a recording. There really wasn't the music business as we know it to be, now. Black people, in general, didn't even get looked at in a public way, so BB King is one of those guys who might be considered as a pioneer….because he was allowed to play….Read that again…He was ALLOWED to play in public. He probably had a friendly attitude towards the right people back then.

Nowadays, every band is black! LOL! Times have changed since Blues Boy King was a boy.
