I was thinking of ways to increase root space in my 1 gallon buckets and I was curious if this is doablecrude.jpg
with the rockwool cube on top of the perlite or partially buried in

I usually cover the small starter cube with perlite under the surface. Else you can get the green algae stuff. What you drew looks like the typical hempy bucket except for the cube being on top. I don't think the cube being on top is a good idea to tell the truth. I don't think it's going to give you much more root space. I normally water all around the bucket including at the main stem. Basically, the smaller the bucket means less roots which means you will limit the plant size. I use 3 gallons and yes you can grow two plants in the same bucket. Not ideal though. I may go with a 2 gallon bucket next. I like smaller fast to harvest plants. Fast autos or photos with very little veg almost straight to 12/12. You should be able to grow a healthy plant in a 1 gallon. May need to water more often later near harvest. I say just move up in bucket size if you want more root space.

I know what you're saying. I actually grow small plants but I was thinking if this might actually be a useful to get a little bit more. Cube is 10 cm by 10 cm btw

I imagine the roots are going to grow down in the wet/dry perlite and expand towards the reservoir whilst the roots in the rockwool cube will thicken to a stem-like nature... building to a super strong root structure. I don't know if this is how it'll happen that's why I'm looking for opinions of approval or dismissal haha

btw the rockwool cube will be engulfed in black/white vinyl except for the bottom part that's buried in the perlite

Probably won't hurt anything really if you want to do it that way. I just use the little Rockwell cubes. I guess the larger cube you use is quite different than my typical hempy experience. I get what you're saying about strong roots but I honestly don't know if it will work out that way. Let us know how it works out for you.

Thanks for the support, matey. This is my last crop following a long period of absence, so not the right time for experimentation lol. It's just an idea I wanted to share and see what other think about

Yeah man. I just do Hempy bucket and Lucas formula. It's simple, cheap and problem free. I am getting kind of bored with it and am starting some compost for going with organics for my house plants in the spring. Maybe even plant some veggies next season. Im just getting started so it will be several months before I have a good living soil. Kinda bored with the hempy thing, but it just works great and is so simple and effective. The only thing I really don't like is PH meters. I have had problems with the plant standing upright in the past and have had to do some creative tieing and staking to get them to stay up. But, mostly my style the plants don't get tall so, I don't always have that problem. I have actually run out of the rockwool starter cubes and now just use the little pellets anymore. Hempy is a great way to grow though. Newbs should start out with Hempy bucket and Lucas Formula IMO it would save them a ton of problems. And you can grow anything in them. I knew a couple who have a small outdoor hydro farm that they use Hempy style with a reservoir on a timer. They grow veggies during the summer growing season.

lucas is specifically for cannabis. gh feeding schedule is close but not quite.

GH floranova bloom IS the lucas formula. guess GH finally got on board. although i don't like how thick floranova is.

i'm trying GH floraduo this go round. mixes up nice and clear so far.

I just began to notice that with the 3 part GH series (following schedule) the seedlings are lagging

I used the 3 part GH formula for a long while in hempy. It did great actually. I switched to Lucas when I needed more bloom nutes. I just use GH Maxibloom powder, 1 small scoop, 1 ml CalMag and about 2 ml ph up to get it around 6.0 and that's it. It works man. Not saying it is the most ideal formula, it just works. But, so did the GH 3 part. I did recipe for success once and it has like 7 or 8 different bottles of stuff. I didn't like having to mix all that at all. I think you're good to go with what you are doing really. Oh, and you can use those GH 3 part nutes you already have in Lucas formula.

Sounds exactly like ISK's stuff. I've never used Lucas Formula neither Calmag. The FloraGro of the 3-part system has Magnesium and FloraMicro has Calcium... so I guess I'm sticking to the three part without having to buy any extra stuff. btw I get the 3 part as a kit and comes with ph down (which is what I need) so I guess this is why I never saw relevance for the Lucas formula

YUP! We have a WINNER! I followed @ISK when I cut my teeth on Lucas formula. Mine is only ever so slightly different that I don't do maxigrow powder. Just Maxibloom. @ISK is the word to follow bro. :hump:

lucas with just micro and bloom, i only had to add cal/mg when i was using it really weak for seedlings. like 2 micro/4 bloom weak. when you get up to 5/10 or 8/16, never needed cal/mg.

maxibloom is by far the easiest. i think it's 5 grams/gallon. a 2LB bag would last forever.

I do use the maxi-grow for the veg stage.... I'm not sure if it's any better or not, but I don't think it can hurt

I like the gun powder scales, as they are accurate and easy to use.

BTW...it's 7 grams per US gallon

Hello all, I'm gonna be growing some auto blue mystic, bubblicious and NL from nivarna. I want to grow in a hempy bucket. What size buckets and when should I start to feed them? I will be using GH maxi grow and maxi bloom as I'm getting them free with my kush cabinet.
