:weed:hey everyone as you all know I'm not the greatest with grammar. so i was thinking if we all band together instead of divide and fall apart:wall: like they want us to.. we would be better off. So here goes if we all come up with a really great letter to send stating why it is so important to have the right to grow.... After all two heads is better than one lol anyways if we all work together on a well put thought out letter and everyone sent it we can't be ignored.... Thoughts (:

Yes but I'm sure my thoughts on the right to grow might be different then yours. I believe everyone should have the right to grow especially people suffering with a medical need. Plus this way it is accessable and affordable for people like myself who are riding the fine line between lower and middle class. The art of growing is also therapy for lots including myself. Anyone else what to add what the right to grow means to them? This is why I thougjt if we draft the letter together none of the really great points will be missed....:bigjoint:

I wrote an email to both ministers a week ago but have not heard back. I'll write and post a letter here that everyone can tweak if they want. We may as well make some noise to counter the LP lobbying.

I also believe that we should have the right to liberty and life and in some cases people depend on this plant for that. So I also believe there should not be strict regulations or home inspections on home grows as I feel it's a violation of my privacy. Cannabis is as dangerous as tomatoes and should be treated as such. The sooner we get rid of the propoganda of canabis being dangerous the better

Okay...here is my start. Let me know what you want to add, change etc.

The Hon. Jody Wilson-Raybould, Minister of Justice

The Hon. Dr. Jane Philpott, Minister of Health

As you are aware, medical marijuana users have been under attack by the previous Harper government for some time now. The mmar was replaced with the mmpr, forcing self-supporting patients to use an unaffordable, unreliable often inferior product from a government licensed producer. While some of us retained the right to grow our own plants through an injunction, many were left out due to an arbitrary date set by Judge Manson and the decision by Health Canada not to allow new patients the ability to grow. Those still able to grow have been handcuffed by Health Canada's refusal to address or process any changes to addresses or need for more than 20 months.

Our demographic consists largely of low/fixed income Canadians, many of us seriously ill or disabled. We are simply unable to afford the Licensed Producer model currently in place and as such are being denied the reasonable access to medical marijuana afforded to us by the supreme court. This prolonged period of uncertainty is costing patients not only financially, but also, in many cases, with their health.

With a change to a more informed government and one who is moving toward legalizing marijuana for recreational use, we are hoping you will take the steps necessary to grant us immediate relief.

We are respectively asking you to consider implementing the following measures while working on a system to replace the mmpr and that serves the sick above others. We thank you for your time.

A) Drop the appeal of the injunction

B) Amend the dates to include everyone previously allowed to grow under the mmar

C)Amend the possession limit to the previous 30 day supply limit

D) Allow changes to be made to growing addresses and plant counts

Any system that replaces the mmpr must include the ability of the patient to grow their own or have someone grow for them in order to be successful.

I disagree because I feel it's too narrow and asks for too many restrictions to be set that shouldn't be.

It should be legal for everyone.
Everyone should be able to grow at home.

While the process to legalize is conducted a focus on patients rights and access needs to be addressed immediately to allow those in need to be able to obtain and afford their medication. The right to grow needs to be reinstated for all medical patients immediately so those in need can live a better life right now, not a year down the road. So please drop the injunction case and allow people to "grow their own medicine".

Using terminology and properly identifying what it is to med users will help overall to show the difference between med and rec and the urgent need for med concerns to be addressed.

However, in the bigger picture it should be legal for all and legal should be the focus because it will also be a huge benifit for patients.

So go after a reasonable legalization and emphasize the urgent need for immediate relief in the form of home grows for medical purposes.

I think the letter and petition should also include Mr. Trudeau and be cc'd and sent to select mj friendly media or media that has ran stories of legalization lately.

You may get a slow news day, and if properly worded and approached it might hit the msm.

This is the best time to pull a chair up to discussion.
We collectively need to find a reasonable balance between ourselves and gov that ensures legalization and a legal right to self produce and spread the word and gain as many signatures as possible.

All consumers win if we meet that goal and it doesn't matter if they're med or rec.

Compassion and medical concerns need to be highlighted appropriately to define the different need med patients have than rec who have a desire or want.
Immediate concerns to be addressed in a short term needs to be med, access and rights to "grow their own medicine"
The longterm goal should be full legalization for all.

This will become a sticking point if it is not properly defined so as to be more easily amended to any legislation you are seeking to enact.
For example, does the 'right to grow' imply plant limits? Are you suggesting people should be able to turn their front yard into a field of indicas?
Do landlords have any rights over use of their property?

If you own the property and you want to turn your front yard into indica paradise have at it. As for the landlords that will be to each of the building owners discretion. Also if the landlord said no then this is where designated growers would come in. Imo

Okay, that's not a bad start, but note you've just turned the 'right' into a limited act. That means it will need legislation which sets boundaries.
Now what about selling it?

It should be sold for under the same regs as a produce product. Just as lettuce carrots or tomatoes if you want to trade go for it. Kinda like grocery stores or farmers markets.

Shhh, I got jumped on hard for that suggestion. ;)
I settled with a reference to beer because it's still fair albeit more restrictive than what a plant like mj should be.

I can't disagree with you that everyone should be able to grow, but I am also aware drastic changes can't happen over night. I left it purposely narrow in terms of requests as I thought it would be easier and quicker to implement than a full scale policy change. If we all think we should go further, we can go there. I like your points and agree we should cc the pm and media.

The power of suggestion.
Med users need to be able to grow their own. No doubt or argument. They need to be priority and can be because of past rulings and dumb reworking of the system that led to court.

The libs can drop all of that right now. However, for the greater good of all patients and rec users legalization needs to be paramount because med and rec will all benifit.

By touting a standard that may help a sliver of consumers that would limit grows or allow unjust restrictions we set everyone back.

Med will affect rec, Rec will affect med.

We need to be on the same page as far as what growing and access would look like. Everyone should be allowed to.

Med needs to be highlighted and treated with utmost importance so it can be rectified without the gov having to do too much because the laws were in place and can be easily be rolled back or reinstated.

Rec will take more work understandably, but the end goal needs to be the same.
The ability to grow and no jail terms for mj users.
