Haha, I was right about to post this question!

I have 4 plants that I do absolutely nothing to but the occasional watering. They sit by the window all day (I live in Florida in a condo on the 15th floor) and it seems to be just fine for them...

...but I also have 1 plant I've decided to have control over. It just broke through the soil yesterday morning, and since then it's been underneath a 32w circular CFL every hour of its life (of course, I took off the plastic shroud so there's nothing between the light and the plant):

So far, so good...in the 36 hours that it's been alive, it's already about an inch high, and it's already grown its first set of leaves apart from the cotyledon leaves.

del66666, why is it that only 16.5 hours of light is "usable"? Does the plant need to "rest" after a long day of photosynthesis?

got a friend who does horticulture who says after 16.5 hours the light does nothing, other chem processes take place, i guess every living thing needs time to sit and rest, mayb thats just me.

Oh don't give me that global warming crap...the amount of methane produced by 1 cow during its lifetime will affect the world's temperature more than my measley closet grow.
