Meh... gotta throw this out there on the MTF cut..

A friend of mine on ICMag we've been trading n stuff and here's his take on MTF.

"I don't think there is such a strain. I've been here since 1973. I'm pretty sure it was just a name attached to weed in order to sell it. A friend of a friend grew what he said was MTF since 1980. When he died my friend got all his plants and gave me some cuts of the MTF. I grew it out 3 or 4 times. It's not all that great, mediocre weed at best"

In fact we're more interested in the latest hybrids.. GG4. GG4 crosses... Etc.

So hes quite a bit older than me..

So fast forward to the end of the 80's

I would get bags of MTF and it was damm good weed to me, smelled of pepper and pine.. nice spacy stuff, well I traded a 44 magnum for some seeds, and had us 1 monster of a girl, all the rest boys. It filled up my buddy's closet Again, pine and pepper, almost woody smelling. Anyways, one of my first grows, we never thought to clone her or whatever.. And I'm gonna have to agree with him.. It seems more hype but I thought it was pretty good.. I know that it kinda faded away, alot of citrus smelling buds started comming out in the 90's.

If anybody is interested, I can ask him if he can get MTF again.. But this is what he said.

"I killed it off. I passed my friend some good cuts of other stuff and he then killed off the MTF also because it's not a keeper strain."

For those of you looking for MTF its in circulation near the Knik bridge area.

No, I didn't have hermie problems and the cut thats circulating hermies were not mentioned. The MTF cut didn't have the production or potency of some of the modern hybrids, like GG4 croses or GSC.. etc.

In a way I respect trying to grow MTF as a heirloom variety.. and I hope that you or others improve on it. I think people should still be open to critique the strain for what it is, and try to find out more about the story about MTF.

I was gunna write the same thing, I got some of this in the eighties and I really liked it. Much like a lot of weed back then it was fly by night, got it now - wont have it later....

I have had a fair amount of ATF,MTF and sour ATF to know that it is a specific strain and flavor to be taken seriously. Alot of heads are all diesel,og or nothing and often overlook alot of old school strains. I had this crossed with sour d and it was one of the most glorious morning smokes ever. This is not a difficult to find strain in Colorado.

Ok.. describe the MTF strain...

Locals dont call it ATF.. (Alaskan Thunder Fuck) Its normally called MTF. (Matanuska Thunder Fuck) Unless ATF is another strain.

There have been a few versions of MTF, Like refermans "Kodiak Gold".. I think Sagmathras MTF. But I think its suspicious to source it from out of
Alaska.

I will try and get photos from my caregiver in a little bit, I just awoke so I will do my best to describe it. I would describe it as a flavor all its own, unmistakable. I feel it is a sativa or sativa dominant. Had a silvery musky flavor. Mainly felt it in the head. Tasted nothing like OG. It was not fruity or durbany like a typical sativa. More info coming in an hour after my coffee.

The Rock is the worst place I have ever been as far as weed goes, that name chaps my ass. hahaa I envision shitty hydro that was chopped too early and costs 3x too much.
It will motivate you to be a good grower that's for sure, probably like any isolated place in AK.

I think honestly MTF is a a bunch of strains that folks called MTF, have a hard time believing it is a specific single strain that was grown and originated in the valley to the point of fame yet has been lost into obscurity except for in some old time growers closet. if it were all that it would have been preserved, it is not that difficult to keep a killer strain around. Unless it was a one time unbelievable breeding accomplishment that was somehow lost, but that just doesn't make sense since it was so wide spread and is still famous.

I know tons of weed is grown there and I really think it is a regional name used to sell bud. MTF= good weed from the valley. Also betting the volume of weed being sold in Los Anchorage that came from the valley back then had most to do with the notoriety, and made the name so widespread.

TX its DRO, back east its Sour, or Kush whatever sells the bud.

That being said, I would love to get my hands on some beans or a cut of any strain that the old timers think is worth keeping around this long. must be just killer.

It really isn't a favorable strain for growers/producers. It has a huge problem with hermie tendencies but if you have it as your only strain, it's such a special experience. The effects are creativity, inspiring, happy and stress relieving. That taste is unmatched and when I am able to breed the impossible trait of hermie out if her, I'm going to enter into cup competitions. Talk about a great plant; but she's years from commercial applications (if she ever gets that far).
