Why do conservatives tend to hate rap?

Let's take Dr. Dre for example, one of the first pioneers into legitimacy. This dude grew up from nothing, adversity everywhere, all around him, and built an empire from the bottom up. He's now worth $700 million. You'd think conservatives would hold him up like the next Henry Ford! He produced tracks like Straight Outta Compton & Fuck the Police! and revolutionized the content and distribution of music. He built himself out of nothing, he used capitalism - and what the people wanted - to make a name for himself. The American Dream!
If by capitalism you mean Easy E's drug money, then sure!

Totally agree. Most, 98% of the shit today is garbage. Quick money, no talent hacks.
i agree, can't get into new rap, but i've never really been a rap fan per se, more so hip hop, and don't really see too much main stream hip hop today, just crap rap stuff, all the same samples, and all the same style flow.. not really my cup of pee.. the auto tune killed a lot of modern music for me..

I had a job once and my manager was some kid. Long story....

Anyways, they're playing rap one day and he turns to me and is all, "hyuck! I bet you don't like rap, do you?"

I said sure, I like rap, and then he asked what. So I mentioned that I had some on me. I hooked my media up to the stereo and played Straight Outta Compton from cover to cover. No one made a single peep the entire time. After the last track I was asked to never play my rap music ever again.

I am more classic rock and heavy metal so the fact that I can recite every lyric on Bloodhound Gang's 'One Fierce Beer Coaster should surprise nobody. Especially given my sense of humor.

Loved Sir Mix Alot, NWA was always good, Cypress Hill, and earlier Eminem.

I'm surprised there hasn't been any talk on Big L. That guy is seriously the BEST lyricist out there. He's far better than Dr. Dre for sure and Biggie Smalls. Although Gangstarr has some amazing words he is the monotone king, but if you get used to his voice then you just dive into his lyrics. And of course when he has Dj Premier backing him up, then there are no words to describe the outcome.

But Big L first place hands down. No one could stand a chance against him. :D

But to answer the question.. I think it's just a generalized belief that rap is about drugs, killing and well, colourful language. While this true in 60% of cases many people are ignorant about the amount of skill required to write an amazing story. It's not easy to compose a song with actual meaning, sticking in metaphors, epithets and most important of all ryhmes. That's why I believe some songs are actual poetry, even if they are about pussy and such.

And it's probably that hip-hop/rap originated from violent and crime torn neighbourhoods that cause this general belief that everything to do with rap = evil and unmoral.

Someone should probably tell Kanye this, when I hear him "rap" it really makes me wonder what happened to music...

They hate it because their children LOVE it.

Kids love and buy profanity, violence and lies.....Thugs get rich selling it. What they do involves no talent and sends the bad message around, that`s why Blacks love it.

Old School,...Run DMC, Fat Boyz,....Tricky, ..........First Rap song,...Walk This Way,...Aerosmith.

Yes only if the rest of yall democratic pukes would learn to strive to achieve and become something...he's black and made it wow I guess color does not matter as much as yall cry.... he set a goal strived and succeeded. If the handouters (made it up) strive they could accomish but instead of living off the government.
