Kodiak wad the exact brand you used? Haha. But honestly guys, can't I juSt drill a hole with the bit that comes with the tap, and then use steel screws to just screw into the aluminum? Theyve got plenty of self tapping M3.

you def could but would think it would be easier just buying one bit for each would take away more of a chance of breaking bit or messing something up

there's another screw that has a no thread nub @ the end & not as deep cutting threads
I just set a 3590 holder with them into a test of how these drill/tap screws to see how they do setting a holder
into a AL bar 1" 2" aprox size !!!

And are you saying that you just screwed it right into the aluminum without even drilling a pilot hole?

( used a 3 /32 " drill bit as the final drill But started with a pilot hole even smaller
This bar that it's attached to is not oonly a test
But will be my template & drill guide as I assemble the array
lay that bar on top on sink then hand drill
straight down drilling is not a issue then when using a jig like this & it's a template as well

I'm still a little lost I'm sorry haha. So with that alum bar, you drilled a pilot hole with like a 1/16" then a 3/32", then you just screwed the screw in? No tapping. But that's only very thin alum not like a 1/4" base plate.
