Lighting/LED questions

Looking at some options for lighting and would like to use LED's but don't really know much about them. Putting together a very small closet setup, a 2ft by 8ft space. Was thinking of ordering a 600w grow panel from eBay. I need to know if the watts are the same, as for hps bulbs, or if I can drop the watts to 300 or 400 with a LED. Thanks

k LED and COB lights are measured in PAR
photo active radiation (energy that plants respond too) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photosynthetically_active_radiation

so the watt of LEDs matter little less then what kind of light u are using ........some LEDs are well just off their PAR rating is crap compared to other brands

1 what type of plant are u ..........it matters more then u think (auto/photo)
photo u need something that has 2 modes (veggie blue/ flower red)
autos u can use a all in one light or a COB

You can grow any version of cannabis with cobs, come on man.Plenty of grows out there documenting that.

i always seen the cobs with a 180w ufo deep red for flowering .....they are fine for most all plants but some photos need that red to really pop

Im sorry but thats just bullshit, lol.

To the op whats ypur budget on the led you want to buy?
say what u wnt i seen autos respond better to a red heavy light compared to a blue ..........it was just the strain (i grow autos for the challage of pushing the plants production)

i got 2 of the matrix S lights so i been playing around with them ........i love the fact it does all 3 (grow/flower/uv) plus i can tweak it the way i want with fading and increasing power lvls

some strains are fine in all in one light but some strain respond better in a red heavy light
candy kush is one that likes the deep red
but cash crop likes more blue
bio diesel does thicker on blue but red has so much more crystals
Narcotheapy loves it mixed (responces nice to UV/10k)

green crack is still in the air doing the 50/50 mix now
GSC seems to like the blue compared to the red

like with generic LEDs

apollo brand is heavier on the blues
that generic white one from amazon is heavy on the reds (most of all genrics bands are heavy on red compared to blue)

the apollo light gets better growth then the generic white one does

How about do some testing with decent leds, instead of apollos and crappy chinese epistars before you start talking about how you cant grow photos with COBs.

sure make my dad cancer go into remission then i can redirect funds back into experiments other then paying for the bills for the house and hospital

when i started testing Cobs were the babies back in the day they were talking about Plasma lights (god awlful thought super heated plamsa in a contain area run by stoners)
u want to talk LED
1 i have already given the Par info (site has the deep math if u want for convertions)
2 he has to make a choice on what likes to see the specs about it ...to keep telling him info on it
3 lens degree for him is fairly simple 90 for the depth with the shallow area he has but enough to get reflection power off the walls to increase the par on the edge of his area
4 if he wants i can tell him how to get the light cheaper then most of u ppl even thought of .......contact the markers by pass retail pay import taxes and shipping comes out less then retail by far
but he has a small area a 600w system would be to strong for him as he needs 2 lights minial to cover the 8 foot area

Generally wattage will be less with leds,IF you run efficient ones.(not like the ones posted above).
Check out the led forum there is a ton of info there, probably should move this thread there

Planning to do photo. just in the process of sexing the moms. So what you are saying is it's best to do a dual mode LED. And my watts matter little. What brands are best? And thank you for your help!

2 of these.....u said u had a 2x8 foot ......one will do 2x4 great u would need a 2nd one to get the best use out of area

it has 90 day return if u do not like..... 5 year coverage........the lens degree is a mixed ........each diode got own lens .....it has the 2 mode to ensure returns on photos......maker is well known and has good rep ......it is in the price range u said with in 50/60 bucks

here is the markers web page so u can see their Par test results for self and compare with others

if u do not want to get 2 lights then get a 300w

it will gives u about 5 feet of usable area out of the 8 foot ......that one is in your price range too (i would tell u do 2 300w for a better return on your yield but that is 200 plus over your price range quoted)

Dont get a platinum those things suck ive been there done that,if you want a cheaper good option look at go green led on amazon. They are decent cob based lights for the money.

I have a platinum led p450 plant stretcher collecting dust in the closet, maybe ill strip out the crappy epistar leds and install some cobs in there one day.Theres some videos around detailing how to do that btw...lol.

then u should of returned it in 90 days if did not like

hell with in 8 weeks u should of known if u liked the light or not ............their par ratings are some of the best verified by 3rd parties

Dude you need to do some more basic research...seriously.Cheap burple lights like this are the worst of the worst in the horticultural led market right now...there are some decent burples. They use Osrams, cree or nichia diodes...decent diodes.Seriously dude..
