LOL, the feds asked for the wrong thing and that was their tell, Apple's just refusing complicity in this grab. All the Feds should have asked for was the data. Why do they need a program to recover data from all iphones? The Feds should have only asked for the data from this phone? What they are asking for is overly broad. There should have to be a subpoena for every data recovery that is tied to a case, otherwise it's an arguable 4th amendment issue.

Exactly. Plus, you know you're really reaching when you need to invoke a law from 1789 to support your request. There's a lot of talk about the FBI intending to go after Apple for years now, and they were just waiting for an incident like this to garner public support for their mission. It will probably go to the Supreme Court, scary stuff...

I have mixed feelings that supposedly our best security people can't circumvent a 10 try passcode. Mostly it's reassuring (kinda). There'll probably be a hack for this down the road, but if it's that basic and effective, I like!

It is reassuring. I assumed a huge NSA facility could crack ANYTHING in a matter of hours or days. To see that they're no match for an iPhone is amusing. On the other hand, hearing that the US is decades behind in the cyber war is unsettling...

Not sure which side I agree with yet. But Apple filed their motion on Friday. They are only seeking the info from that 1 phone. But since the software doesn't currently exist to access the phone, they want Apple to create it.

The feds claim Apple can retain the software and even destroy it after they unlock that 1 phone. Doesn't seem quite as unreasonable as simply handing over a "master key " to the feds which they can use whenever.

Apples response is that merely creating the software would subject them to an onslaught of attempted hacks from individuals that want the new software. Sounds like Apple is not very confident of it's own security.
